I'm using my Ace Edge HOTAS flight stick setup (from Ace Combat 6 for the Xbox 360) on my Xbox 1, for Elite: Dangerous, by way of a CronusMAX, and by far and large it works fantastic. I do plan to make a tutorial on this soon and get into details, but I'll save that for another post. My question is a bit more general than that.
As I needed to use an Analog Input on the Xbox controller for throttle axis, to use my analog throttle control, in the game (Elite
angerous), I have swapped my triggers and bumper button assignment. So now my Throttle Up is Right trigger, and my Throttle Down is Left trigger. I have my actual dedicated analog throttle control on my flight stick mapped to Right Trigger on the controller, and I have the "left trigger" analog button on the throttle, mapped to Left Trigger on the controller.
With the setting "Throttle Axis Range" in the game set to "Full Range" - the throttle on the flight stick works PERFECT! At the bottom of it's travel I'm at 0 % throttle, and at the end of it's travel I'm at 100% forward throttle. Perfect! Trouble is, that leaves me with no way to go in reverse! And with the Throttle Axis Range set to "Full Range" the "Forward Only Throttle Reverse" key / setting is IGNORED in game.
So, I changed the throttle axis range to "Forward Only". That seems like what I should be using anyways! Now I can map the the Left Trigger to "Forward Only Throttle Reverse" function with a button mode of Hold in the game. This makes reverse work perfect! I hold the left trigger button and I go in reverse for as long as I hold it. My problem is, for some reason, setting the throttle axis range to "Forward Only" CHANGES how the Right trigger / forward throttle works! Now I'm always at 50% throttle, and that no longer works right! And my throttle control doesn't do anything until it's past 50%, then it lets me go up to 100%. But I can never go BELOW 50%. This seems like the reverse of what you'd expect to happen!
I can't figure out why it's doing this. Or how to fix it. It seems like it's a bug with the Forward Only setting. At the very least, it seems like I need a third setting for the Throttle Axis Range. One that WORKS like "Full Range" but that DOESN'T disable the "Forward Only Throttle Reverse" button, like it does now. It's either one way or the other.
For now, I employed a bad work around as you'll see in my screenshot below. I have the Throttle Axis Range set to Full Range so my throttle control works as expected. Then I mapped the Left Trigger to the "Set Speed to -25" setting. This at least lets my throttle work for forward movement as expected. And it lets me at least go -25 in reverse whenever I press the left trigger button. But I have no gradual control of reverse, or anything slower or faster than -25%. :-/
Thank in advance for any help with this!
