General / Off-Topic Problems with forum

Hi.

I've just registered.

There were two problems.

First, coming to the forum without having yet registered, this text is shown at the top of the page;

"Welcome to the Frontier community forums, the one stop place to discuss all of Frontier's games. If you've not yet created an account you can do so by clicking the register button. Once you've registered you can jump straight into the fray and begin posting. We're looking forward to welcoming you into our community!"

Where the word "register" is a hyperlink. Naturally, I clicked upon it.

Turns out it links to this : "http://forums.frontier.co.uk/%2$s"

Which gives this;

"Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Apache/2.2 Server at forums.frontier.co.uk Port 80"

Second issue; having clicked instead on "register" in the menu bar, I'm taken to the registration page which displays the T&C but with the body text the same colour as the background.

Looking forward to a bug free and well tested Elite : Dangerous! ;-P

Hi Toebs
Welcome. Sorry your having difficulty with the forum. If there is anymore problems feel free to let me know. :)

Hi Toebs,

There are several minor issues with the forums currently so we will be looking into updating the forums with something a little more fit for purpose in the future. Hopefully this will included a range of new features as well.

The forum will be going through a lot of changes soon with new sections for Backers and the Design Decision forum. So yes all issues will be looked into, but if you find anymore feel free to let us know :)

EDIT: Ah, Ashley beat me to it :)

Good Afternoon (or evening)! If you would like to try out the other forum themes, there's a little dropdown at the bottom left of the forums on every page. It should allow you to swap to a forum theme that you selected.

As for me, I've always used the Elite theme. It's nice on the eyes! :)

In the meantime is there any possibility of changing the cookie settings? I don't know about anyone else but I find it really annoying being logged out every 30 minutes.

I also have the "cannot see text unless I select it" problem, even on my UserCP page.

I also find that when clicking on "New Posts" I often see threads that do not have new posts and it shows me threads where I have already read all the posts but they are still shown in BOLD as there are unread posts...

Registering was unnecessarily annoying. Was it really necessary to have the (resetting) are-you-human maths question as well as the captcha (which kept serving me bizarre choices including punctuation and fraction symbols)? It took me half a dozen attempts to actually jump those hoops and finally successfully register, having to re-answer the questions, re-do the captcha, and re-enter my password twice each time.

Sorry my first post on the forums ends up being a grumble.

Which forum theme is/was it set to at the bottom left of the website. The active theme will show up in the dropdown window without you having to manually click the dropdown box. I assume this was the Frontier V2 forum theme?

Apologies, the captcha code system in use is known as reCaptcha, it can be highly pesky at times with words generated. I, myself even have issues on other discussion boards that utilize it. As for the forum "are you real?" type questions, those were set in place many months ago to ward against spam bots hitting the site and having a heyday. :)

Thanks, Brett. Doesn't the Captcha do the work of checking that it's a human registering? Can one or the other be rescinded?

When the new forum updates roll around here in the coming weeks, I will see what can be done about it. This issue is more so slated towards Ashley or Michael at this point, as I have no control of what is and is not enabled on the forums. :)

Okay great, thank you. One more Q: are all comments always held for moderation, or is it just this forum, or is it just temporary? :)

Newly registered users to the forums that say "keywords" are the ones that normally get stuck-up on the forums anti-spam system. As for the anti-spam filter in use, it sort of isn't very "legitimate user friendly" currently as you and others have seen. ;)

I think after two posts, your usergroup is bumped over to 'fully registered', and the pesky limitations are lifted.
