Procedural Planets, Clouds, Mountains... Frontier Should Hire THIS Guy!

Oh and please don't tell me FD can do everything, I'll believe it when I see it.

Well that's the thing isn't it. We see FD delivering what they said they would on a regular basis, and to a high standard. They said planet surfaces would be a post-launch expansion, and they've stuck to that. Instead of posting meaningless mockups of what something that isn't done yet to pad sales, they have stayed focused on building a real game one piece at a time. Instead of spending most time talking about what they will do, they have opened the game to the highest level of scrutiny by letting us actually play it. So when we see it in Elite, we can believe it.

Clearly FD can't do everything. But they can produce a stunning procedurally generated universe.

Yeah! pretty amazing it is. I don't know at what level FDEV is in this matter, however I hope that they are on the same or above that kind of details.

There are some challenges that needed to be overcome, one is te PG of the planets themselves and the to fill it with interesting stuff to explore.

I read some time ago about PG of digital life forms, if we see something like that I must say that they went beyond and above all my dreams.

Just look at Creatures Online, a simple way of making creatures for an open world environment.

I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't mind a transition or loading screen. If it can be done seamlessly with no reduction of quality on the other side then that's great I'll take it! However, there is usually a trade off for using the same engine code for everything. Twenty years ago I would have taken a mash up of Dark Forces and Tie Fighter, heck I still would :) In other words I would be fine with a switch between a purpose built engine for flight and a purpose built engine for ground combat...
