Product Update - Planet Coaster is coming to Steam

I too haven't read this whole thread. So, I just installed Steam, and set up my account. I was looking at the pre-order options for PC, and I'm thinking about going with the EarlyBird + Alpha access. If I do that, I take it I can play the game in whatever form it's in right now, and then later when it goes to Steam - I will still be able to play? I'm reading about getting a Steam key after 8/23 or something like that. So, I'll get a key, and I'll be able to keep playing it on Steam then? Sorry if I sound ignorant, but I've been away from gaming for a while, and all this "Early Access" stuff and Steam thing have me a bit confused. Thanks in advance for any advice.

1. If you buy this: https://www.frontierstore.net/eur/games/planet-coaster-cat/planet-coaster-earlybird.html/ you will get Alpha access (ie immediate access after your purchase) plus access to the game when it gets a full release in Q4 2016.

2. On 23rd of August Alpha 3 version is released, Alpha owners get a Steam key, and at the same time, the Game/Alpha is completely closed for purchase and players will play through Steam instead of the Frontier Launcher.

3. When the game is finished, it will release as a full game in Q4 2016 on Steam. No Early Access tag on it, it will be finished.

4. Between 23rd of August and the full release, it seems unlikely that anyone will be able to purchase the game at all. ie: purchase before 23rd of August or you'll have to wait until full release

I hope that cleared it up for ya [cool]

One minor error, the Early Bird purchase will remain available for purchase for an additional 2 days after Alpha 3 drops. August 25th is the last chance to buy in to the Alpha but you won't be able to buy it on Steam, only via Frontier's store.

Wow, the whole Steam debate is mute. Steam is the best digital distribution platform at the moment and has been for a while now, I have used Steam for many years and have never had a problem with it. The Steam workshop is currently the best way for developers to deliver custom user generated content easily - easy for the creator and easy for the users. The ability to download your files from Steam is far superior to anything on the market, I'm sure most developers including Frontier would be more inclined to spend time producing content than maintaining servers for updates and game content. The costs would far outweigh the profit and is usually the reason why most game developers use Steam as their distribution platform, it's a no brainer. There are 10's of thousands of games on Steam and more are added every day, there is a reason for this and that is it is the best available platform for game delivery, maintenance and ongoing mod support through the workshop - the support that won't disappear in 12 months when the site that was hosting your favorite mod goes down.
If you haven't used Steam or don't have an account then I would suggest you get onto it, to say you would prefer a refund over using Steam is totally ridiculous. Steam is the king of digital distribution and although there are a couple of other digital distributors available Steam is the biggest and best hands down with millions of users. Check it out for yourself instead, you may be surprised at what it has to offer. I myself can't wait for it to hit Steam as it will be easier to keep up to date, and that's including all the mods that will surely come with it now this has been announced.

I agree. I don't see anything wrong with Steam. I too have been using it for a long time and never had any issues. Not sure why people wouldn't use it? I am an optimist so I say at least its not Origin. [happy]

Any word on when the full game discount will end?? I'm not able to purchase yet, but will do so in Sept/Oct. I hope they don't raise the price for standard pre-orders before the beta begins.

When the game launches the price will be £29.99, so I'm assuming the discounted price will be up until release of the game.

Purchasing of Planet Coaster <Alpha> will be impossible after August 25th. Between that day and release in Q4 2016 (October-December) there won't be any possibility to buy the alpha.

You can still pre-order though surely? What company in their right mind would stop letting people buy their game?

The full price is $50 and the current discounted price is $30...

I was <Not> asking about Alpha

Crowdpleser, If you pre-order you will have to wait until the full release in Q4/2016. The only way to get it before is to buy the Early Bird before the Alpha ends.

Yes i got that part... this is why i am confused. I thought Creaper has Alpha Access. So after the Alpha he would be able to play yes?

am I speaking another language? My question was more intended for a member of Frontier to answer, anyway... but I might also buy a 2nd copy too (as a gift)

It sometimes is easier said than done regarding financials.

Granted, cities skylines is a really good steam backed game. [mouth shut]

I dunno if I remember right, but didn't Cities: Skylines shared your Planet Coaster Announcement Trailer some months ago on their facebook page? They definetly know what games will become great [big grin]
