Professional Smuggler... is it possible?

I've never really tried this as a role, and I'm looking for something to re-kindle my interest in Elite.

I generally found black market prices to be lower than actual market prices, not higher as you might expect, usually when I hand in stuff I found floating around in space. I'd think scarcity and risk involved in smuggling would ensure high prices on the black market.

Is it possible to find a system, load up on goods, fly to a system where they are illegal and sell them for vast profits on the black market?
Is there a difference in black market prices for "illegal" vs "salvage" containers, could that be why get this impression or have things changed recently to make this a viable strategy?

It is annoying that the black market isn't paying good prices even though it was said that the black market was fixed with 1.2 to be 25% higher. Which is in the Beta 1.2 thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=123786&highlight=smuggling . The problem that I haven't seen any difference at all. you still loose money and from what it says in the thread, is that to find out the demand as like normal market, you look at the system info and the items that are at the top of illegal are the stuff that is in demand. But I didn't see it

for smuggling you need to buy leagle goods and take them some where thats prohibited. imperial slaves in federation and there needs to be a demand for them.

as for half price things taken black boxes and other goodies (salvage) get the price tag cut in half but those are pure profit. these features still need a desperate flesh out mode but they are more in depth than bounty hunting and trading so give em time.
