Proposal for the inclusion of short fence options

Hey everyone, hope you all have been doing well and taking care. đź‘‹

I was able to unlock all of the assets and dinosaurs needed to make the most off sandbox mode, so far I have been enjoying the game.

One of the exhibits I wanted to make was a hotel enclosure where the dinosaurs would surround the hotel and guests would observe the dinosaurs from their rooms. I especially wanted to make it with the updated roster that includes the archaeornithomimus and shrunken crichtonsaurus. However, after making the enclosure setup, the tall fences does not make the place look as inviting as I had hoped.

Large fences-01.png

The fences are tall and much too imposing than I had expected, especially when housing the small dinosaurs. Likewise they do get in the way from hotel views, where the large bars obstruct the view in the JP hotels, or get in the view of the JW hotels.

Large fences-02.png

Since the roster of dinosaurs has expanded since the early days of JWE1 to include some small species, and with how many of the dinosaurs got a new resize to be smaller, I think we could do with some small fences to compliment the smaller creatures.

Large fences-03.png

The fence sizes were fine back in Jurassic World Evolution 1 as the dinosaurs we had then were quite large, either because of the species or because of the scaled up sizes most of them had back then. Now when housing dinosaurs that are small in scale and do not require much space, the enclosures end up looking very cramped due to the tall size of the fences. Especially when housing species like the compsognathus and Homalocephale. So I wanted to see what it would be like if we had shorter options for the fences

So I wanted to check, what should the fence be like? And besides the visual difference, what could they provide the other fences do not?

So to start things off, let us look at the defensive capabilities.

Dinosaur List-01.png

In Jurassic World Evolution 2, the escape mechanic has been modified so that not all dinosaurs could escape from any fence provided they keep bashing it. Dinosaurs now have a limit to what kind of fences they could escape from, with stronger fences outright preventing the dinosaurs from escaping. This ranges in a security rating from 1 to 6. 1 being the weakest where 11 dinosaurs from the roster won't be able to escape from any enclosure, and 6 being the most dangerous where a handful of the powerful dinosaurs are able to bash out of the highest defences if they are not comfortable within their territory.

The lowest defensive fence we have in the game is the level 2 electric fence. A fence that would contain the 22 dinosaurs shown above. Which are practically some of the smallest, weakest, and gentle of the dinosaurs we have in the game.

*The special case here is the chungkingosaurus, which has a security rating of 5, which I think should be lowered to at least a 2, mainly because it is strange how such a small and offensively weak stegosaurid species that is often available early from research, has a security rating that would contain most of the large carnivores and armored herbivores with high combat skills. So I included the chungkingosaurus as it is so far the only small dinosaur that has such a high security rating, and to be similar to the other stegosaurids of similar scale and offensive capabilities..

So when thinking of a short fence, I think it should come in two flavors. A level 1 security and level 2 security fence, so that we have an option for the weakest and smallest dinosaurs, and an option for those that require a bit more attention. This however leaves us with some large dinosaurs like the corythosaurus, maiasaura, muttaburrasaurus, and ouranosaurus. So I housed the 4 largest dinosaurs of the 22 in the lowest fence option to better guage how the tall the short fences could be.

Hadrosaur fences-01.png

So far, they are not that big. Some are only tall enough to look over the chain linked section of the fence, and given how low they are in security, we could use the chain link section to gauge how high the new short fences should be.

So down below you will see the potential direction for the short fences. I based them on the design of the level 2 and 3 electric fences, as removing the electricity from those fences would lower them to a security level of 1 and 2 respectfully. I also added an extra bar for the level 2 short fence so that some dinosaurs like the corythosaurus, which requires a level 2 security fence to be contained, would look housed in despite the short fence height.

These fences have their pros and cons.

Pros:
1) They are cheap.
2) They require less construction time.
3) They do not require electricity, so you could power more important fences and facilities.
4) They allow for the otherwise small exhibits to have some breathing room.

Cons:
1) They are the weakest fence options.
2) They do not require electricity, which means:
• Dinosaurs won't be discouraged from continuously attacking the fences.
• Small carnivores like the raptors and dilophosaurus could climb over the fences.

The idea of these fences are that they provide players an option that would work with the smaller dinosaurs. A compsognathus exhibit would look more roomy despite the small enclosure size thanks to the shortened fence height, while also providing hotel attractions a less obstructed and more attractive view of the dinosaurs.

These could also be seen as superior options to the default level 2 security fence we have in the game, so they should be researched. Research level 1 short fence to use in your parks, and you should then have access to use level 2 short fencing once level 1 is unlocked. Fortunately, fences with a security level of 3, 4, and 5 are still needed as they deliver a much more defensive barrier than the short fences could provide thanks to their durability and the use of electricity.

When looking into the short fence, I also wanted to check on 2 aspects. How could dinosaurs break out of a lowered fence? and how does it connect to gates and attractions.

Breaking fence-01.png

The good news is that the animations the dinosaurs have already does a great job hitting the short fence height. The giant sauropods could kick the fence as shown above, while the large theropods could bash their heads through the fence as expected, and it won't look odd with animations hitting the air, as the short fences are tall enough to be hit by the animations used by the largest of these respective species.

The only modifications would then be to give the small carnivores that are capable of climbing fences a short climbing animation. Having them jump over the fence would be quicker than the standard climbing animation of the tall fences. Making the short fences inefficient keeping them in, or keeping them out from the already vulnerable dinosaurs housed in.

Fences A-01.png

The other concern I had was how the fence would connect with the attractions and gates already connected to the fencing. All of the standard fences are connected by 2 hinges when connected to other fences or attractions. With how low these fences are, they may not be able to use the same two hinges, but that may not be a problem, as a single hinge could be just enough to connect them with the gates, attractions, and taller fence options.

And lastly, I also dabbled in the idea of having an alternative look for a Jurassic World Style short fence. So what better way to compliment the sleek modern of the park look than glass?

Fences B-02.png

Zoos already use durable glass to house in some strong animals like tigers and gorillas, so I could see a Jurassic World fencing option using the same glass for the gyrospheres to house the least threatening of dinosaurs. Plus with the more transparent material, it will make the exhibits look just as roomy for the small dinosaur residents.

--------------------------

And that is my proposal. I think having small fence options could allow for unique exhibits that could be used for hotel enclosures or even have a petting zoo like flair. Do let me know what you think down below, and share if you have any additions or changes you would like to see be made.

Thanks for reading!

More fences in general would be really cool to have. The current selection is very limited to say the least and they don't look very different from one another on top of that, with the exception from the two JP fences we got. I'd really love if we had fences of defferent heights and thicker looking ones as well, more bars for some of them, especially the higher level feces, would be nice, too.

Most of what we got right now looks so paper thin and full of holes, no wonder the smallest dinos can break it with a hit or two...and I keep wondering why small carns even bother climbing all the way up, they can just slip right through the huge gaps inbetween the fence bars.

I can tell you really spent a lot of time of this and you include diagrams, blueprint images and comparisons to other buildings and dinosaurs. I too, have been wanting smaller fences to make more "kid-friendly" exhibits and these are great! I would suggest the fences be slightly higher but that is my only concern. I would love to see more chaos when my park goes down (yes I've purposefully sabotaged my own parks, like you've never done that) and this fence system allows for more breakouts and gives us additional fencing. Excellent proposal and I really hope Frontier looks at this.

I love this, but I DO think that level 1 fences should be a little taller, maybe the area you suggest plus the bar above it? Maybe they could be Chain Link Fences, so you can surround buildings with them for decoration, as well!

I just the option to manually select between different security levels of fences. From what I've gathered, it's impossible to use a Level 3 fence if you've done research to use Level 5 fences.

You can still select any fence type in the fence menu, though? They're all there, lvl 1-5 it's whether or not you want them to be powered that can't be selected. As soon as they're in a power radius they'll be powered and there's nothing you can do to change that.

I love this idea, but I have my own input if you don't mind:

Level 1: basic 2m or 6'6" high chain-link fence (see DFW paleomedical facility)
Level 2: the same but electrified (note: dinos that can escape by climbing fences, can jump clean over these even with the power on)
Short gate: gate and sidewall are the height of the fence, but the lightpost is still the height of the original. Level 2 security, and again raptors et. al. can jump over it.

Love the suggestion. I agree we need more fencing options. I would appreciate it if we could just choose to build the electrified fences in a non-electrified manner.
