Proven cheaters still in open.

Jones this cmdr was bragging that his cheating is undetectable. It leaves no trace. Only video evidence and if he wants to cheat - he can do it in solo. He even said that 10.000 merits can be done in 2 hrs in a crime sweep :] There you go.

I have to agree with the whole 3 strikes and your out deal. Now they obviously can't just take the game away from them, but they could permanently ban them to solo with almost all of the BGS disabled for them; i.e. no faction influence, no PowerPlay, no Community Goals. You're in Solo purgatory.

I do agree with Frontier that to use a kind of pillory is not OK and will set the level of this forum down. But on the other hand perception is reality. If we don't see kind of real results in numbers (or names) of the action plan from Frontier, many of us (including me) do think that Frontier don't do anything at all. And I am pretty sure that this is completely not true.

I may be being nieve saying this but can not FD simple tag the cheaters accounts, so when they engage in combat/missions etc, either against NPC or players, the game notes the flag and ignores any damage they do?

In place of using the IP address (Most ISP's use dynamic IP's) use the mac address as it's unique to each NIC. (may take more work to do it on FD's part, but it can be done).

Personally I would look at birching as an option.

Why stop there?

We do investigate cheating reports as they come in. If a player is found to be cheating/hacking/exploiting, we will take actions against the player doing whatever it may be. The severity of the punishment greatly depends on if they're repeat offenders and what they were doing.

For the record, cheating in open isn't as widespread as what some have said in the past. In fact, it's a rather small subset of players feeling the need to take advantage of exploits, hacking the game client, and performing malicious actions in the game world. We do punish players who decide to go that route be it if our automated anti cheat tags them or if people report the player.

If they get a complete ban or X times maybe FDEV should name and shame them

If you can note the day, time and system your in, including the commanders name, Frontier can check their records for any discrepancies.. If they see a players shield or hull not taking any damage even though they are being fired upon, then they know there is a strong possibility of someone cheating. I am sure they have an internal system to deal with these sorts of things. Best thing you can do, is video it, note it, and report it. As for his boasts.. I call B/S.. but I dont cheat, so I dont know for certain.
And frontier will do little or nothing, as usual.

Easy to spoof. I think there's even an option in the device manager in windows for it. ARP poisoning via mac spoofing is so easy, and it is why you can never trust public wifi/networks.

Many wont like my solution... 3 Strikes and your out.. Meaning If you are found cheating (by the devs) 3 times, then you are banned for life. No refund, no nothing. Your account is closed. Your IP recorded and blocked.

I came across a cheater the other day. hull went down to 3% and just sat there... But I did manage to disable their Powerplant then engines, until he logged off..

Very much this, although it won't happen.

How many players have you permanently sent to shadowbanistan for repeated cheating offenses so far?

A quiz for you players.

  1. What do you hope to gain from knowing the “cheater” and their punishment?
  2. How long will whatever you derived from said gain last?
  3. Will “name and shame” stop cheaters?
  4. Is it really the cheaters (at this point) that are the problem?

1-3 are obvious.

And 4 is really the point, and it happens to every online game. Once the idea/concept/thought or even innuendo of cheating digs that insidious hole into our consciousness, we are done, and the cheaters have won. It becomes impossible for us to not let that thought blast right to the forefront any time another player does anything we perceive as questionable.

Sadly, I know of no fix for this except on the individual level. It is up to each one of us to NOT let that thought win. And it ain’t easy.

The clowns in question did and when watching it you see:

- Clown 1 deliberately damages their ship to the point of destruction & rams player A
- If clown 1 dies then player A is now wanted, has a bounty, and is a criminal for 7 days in that system (murder)
- Player A, if they survive the impact, is now fired upon by the stations
- Clown 2 helps the station to ensure destruction

- - - Updated - - -

You forget my good sir ... by the actions of said clowns they also force a "wanted" status on the victim.

Good isn't it .. exploiting the game to ensure someone else pays for your crime ;)

bad enough clows need to show fd the bad game mechanics

I don't get all this MAC / IP ban nonsense - everyone needs to log into the game. If you're banned just close the account. End of problem. If the banned person buys another copy they start from scratch and it's up to them if they wish to behave or not. <shrug>

Nothing wrong with finding exploits and informing FD.

Everything wrong with abusing said exploits for one's own entertainment ;)

this is why I am glad I got this game on xbox. it runs 1080p and 60fps so I am okay with the game. there's no cheating or hacking. the only thing we xbox players deal with is combat logging(which to me is the worst of the lot). Why fdev have refused to hammer down on combat loggers is beyond me.
