PSA - Elite Dangerous Now On iPhone and iPad!

Sony has just released version 6.50 of PS-OS, which features remote play on iOS devices. In other words, we can play ED on our iPads now!

However, I have no idea how this will work with DS4. Perhaps the app will allow DS4 to link to iPad via Bluetooth?

Regarding 6.50, I haven't read anything about bug fixes or other features. Anyone else have more info?

It won't ever support DS4 untill Apple remove MFI...
DS4 is not a MFI device so is banned APPLE side...
This is stated on the App download section of the app and on the old Itunes PC site listing...
due to no DS4 use the App is useless for many titles due to the touch screen only controlls and QTE in games failures...

(those in the UK may remember what MFI actualy meant untill apple high jacked it, as it has another use after the users who used to buy items at that retail chain...)

The other feature set of 6.50 is for Asia region and nobody else...

I can't even imagine on-screen controls for DS4 - there's just too many buttons and a "touchpad on a touchscreen" and combos, etc. If this is true, then ED will be basically useless on this app due to all the two-finger salutes we have to do...

FWIW, the DS4 does work on a MacBook, but you have to plug it in via USB last I tried it.

Apple have specifc rules just for IOS... MFI or "made for iphone" lock out.

Oh boy! Thats all we need is to have some game playing Driver trying to Dock his Beluga, full of passengers on the Public server, whilst driving to work. Seems like an accident waiting to happen on both levels.

They banned Network data usage due to QOS requirement in the app... You require Wifi connected device so you need a second access point in the car...
I use laptop down the pub to do boring stuff like trading goods but never do combat but that has DS4 support..

This update is sounding more and more useless with each post

If you got a current or semi upto date mac book laptop or windows PC laptop or window tablet from 2012 or later you are better of with that in your back pack or bag to do this than mobiles...
If your work supplies a loptop its even better... as you just carry a DS4 and power cable with it..

Bet the shadows are real good....

Apparently there's a workaround to use a ds4 on iOS

Can't confirm as I don't have an apple device

http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/03/guide_how_to_use_a_ps4_controller_with_remote_play_on_ios

If ds4s are not permitted it sounds like a bug and may not last.

Remote play has to work out side the house... the use shown there requires DS4 be in range of the PS4 and use local bluetooth... Its not connected to the Tablet or phone...
It also requires secondary account creation use... it won't be for every one as the Bluetooth lag and range will be a big issue...
For those in the same exact room as the PS4 it will work fine...

For those who wanted remote play to use there tablet in the local pub to play there PS4 games it won't reach...

As a side effect of releasing IOS app they also removed support on MacOSX older versions for the mac remote play app for laptops and Imacs...
Only the last two versions of MacOSX are supported now not last 4..

Tried it allready on linux, you may have been joking but many have tried to avoid dual booting windows..

DS4 is not supported untill kernal 4.16 in linux (full support touch pad, 3.5mm, sixaxis, full functions) and VM ware does not support DS4 yet...
PS4 remote play won't install as it flags your not running native windows comes up with the wrong windows version notification under wine...
You can install under HV/VM ware but DS4 still fails to work...

Custom wine build is beyond what I can do...

I find the remote play useful simply for checking and accepting missions when away from the house. It lets me grab the good missions and then fly them later when i get home and can play on the console. Yes, I know.. I'm addicted to the mission board... lol I have an Apple compatible controller, but I haven't tried it yet.

yep remote play is brilliant at doing the slow stuff... but combat is a nightmare...
the big issue with MFI controllers is the lack of PS4 buttons and no touch pad...
As good as the steel series controller is having no PS button or options button is going to suck..

I never joke about Linux - typing this right now from my MacBook running Linux :D

These days I feel almost the same about MacOS as I do Windows. Shame, because it didn't used to be that way.

On the topic of DS4, this may be Sony's fault as much as anyone's, since they basically DRM-lock their controllers. I like Sony's hardware, and I like the games made for Sony's hardware, but the company itself - I do not like so much.

Nope its allready confirmed as Apple wanting money for every single controller sold that can access a IOS device and that requires every maker pay them per unit sold...
SIE has sold 90+ million consoles with a DS4, so thats 90mill DS4 that could access an iOS device... yet alone the extra DS4s for multi player...

JB IOS ads full DS4 support to IOS but that brings alot of issues with media apps not liking the JB...
People are making third party remote play apps with full DS4 support for android still but there not making them public because of having to deal with joe public and firmware changes that break them and make them laggy...
Fire OS tablet builds are popular...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTAZ1-GRJ0A pre firmware 6.50 /remote play 2.80 ( sorry fire tablet mics picks up DS4 and every minour button press)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxDJYWQhiLA post firmware 6.50 /remote play 2.80 ( laggy as hell now and no audio, also disabled the fire tablet mic for some stupid reason...)
yep they changed some thing big to support IOS...

Just was going to recommend R-Paly instead ( better bandwidth optimization and MFI Controller support ) but just learned it seems to be broke with the latest PSOS update :-(

Third party remote play apps are always broken after .5 or .00 updates... Its why developers stop making them as they have to deal with "User" whining that the developer has a "LIFE" so can't drop every thing fly 3000 miles back home after SIE change the IP address of the login server or move the API access and Other DNS servers are to slow to update...
MFI controllers are supported on the Sony App But MFI controllers Still have lots of missing buttons and No TOUCH pad so you stuck with on screen for those buttons still...

Android still has "For fun third party remote play apps" but they will not release publicly due to the Update Firmware cycles that can kill them and the complainers who harass the developers...
