The meaning of ad-hominem attacks may be misunderstood.
Here are some tips that should be followed.

If the OP is insulted it's an ad-hominem attack.

Obviously if a call the op totally idiotic and stupid, they will feel insulted, that does not change the fact that the OP may in fact be idiotic and stupid.

If a poster is insulted it's an ad-hominem attack.

If an individual or individuals in the first, second, third, first plural, second plural, third plural person is referenced, it's probably an ad-hominem attack.

in a forum where multiple people are contributing to the discussion you cannot avoid naming people as it helps people to follow track of the discussion.
By me quoting you i am referencing you, so that is automatically insulting?

Its almost certainly not, e.g. amadeus1171 made an interesting post. (how is that insulting?)

If a real individual or individual(s) is(are) referred to in any shape or form, even in insinuation in a reply, it's probably an ad-hominem attack. Because nobody (or maybe almost nobody) here says anything nice.

Your proposing no one makes ad-homenien attacks and then ad-hominem attack to everyone that uses the forum, way to go dude...
