PSA: Famines are back on the menu

I guess the problem with JJ-386 is that you need to keep going away and trading up the materials after you fill up each time?

There's a trader almost nextdoor, can't remember the name though, but check INARA. That's a non-issue for me.

Yeah, that's the issue for me. I don't want to go mindlessly scan and re-log and then have to go sort out a material trader...and then engineer it. And it's not like the other wake data you scan isn't useful; it is.

Although with transactions at material traders earning good ARX, maybe that's a tick in the Jameson Cobra farming box.

Well in my opinion all ways of farming data are pretty mindless, except mabe for planetary base scanning (for MEFs and CIFs and such), where you get to make a time-race. Those can be fun.

Depends on your definition on 'next door' - 93 Ly isn't that close. But hey - both work - Jameson if you like grinding, Famines if you mainly want wake related stuff. Good to have options :)

I'm impressed: much as I tried, I was never able to persuade myself that sitting in a Famine Distribution Centre scanning wakes wasn't grinding.:p

Listen to a football match on the radio while doing it, it's pretty relaxing. If you try and scan all the incoming ships for data and the all the wakes it keeps you pretty busy. And no relogs, so my immersions remains intact ;) But hey, feel free to use other methods - when I've had enough then I head off to do something else, as I'm about to do :)

I think it depends on specifically what the mat/data is.

A ship only has one FSD.
Completing a G5 long-range mod' needs roughly 10 rolls.
You collect 100 G5 Encoded mat's from the Jameson site, trade 'em for 16 DWEs and you've got enough to complete a G5 mod' on your FSD.
In and out in 15 minutes. Job done.

By contrast, a ship might have 9 hardpoints
If you want to mod' 9x Overcharged lasers/MCs, that's 90 MEF required.
Getting those from the Jameson site means making 6 trips, going back and forth to a trader.

I don't mind spending a bit of time doing tedious stuff but I don't fancy doing it for hours on end.

To analyse it more objectively, using the Jameson site is getting you 1 G5 Encoded mat' per minute (after trading).
In the case of MEF, there are surface installations where you can get 2 or 3 MEF per minute, including relogging.

The Jameson site isn't an especially fast way of gathering Encoded mat's IF they're available by other means.
What it is, though, is reliable and if you only need enough for a single 'mod that might be the most important factor.

It was an example. Though if your point is that you don't enjoy anything - then I can see where you have an issue :p
Issue? ISSUE! Bah! Humbug! [Puts in ticket to change CMDR name to CMDR Grump.]

Actually my point would be that scanning wakes is just as tedious as relogging at the Jameson Cobra - as your football example rather confirms. The only difference is that, even allowing for the trade-off runs to distant Diaguandri, Jameson will give you getting on for twice as many DWE in the time spent.

But .. think of the immersions! Every time you relog Yamiks kills a puppy 🐶 :(

Now that's worth knowing. Hadn't heard that before. Any chance of more details?

Lung 3 Lockhart Prospect.
BD+10 5022 1B Plucker Relay.
There are more but these are the only 2 I remember.
Try googling "Elite MEF surface installations" to find alternatives.

Activate the data-points, get MEF as a reward, relog.
Takes about 50 seconds in an SRV.

I prefer Lockhart Prospect cos 2 data-points are outside the restricted area and the 3rd can be scanned through a wall so you never get attacked.
There's probably Youtube video's that demonstrate what's required.
Alternatively, gimme a shout and I can show you in-game. (y)

I'm off into the black in the next few days, and probably won't be back in the Bubble till after Crimbo. But I'll bookmark this post, and have a look then. I have my doubts about whether it'll actually be as fast as swinging my SRV turret about at Jameson; but as long as it's decently fast, variety is always good.

I always got my MEF, EFC and BtC doing missions. If i want cash too, i take a trip to Robigo.
Otherwise, any station with allied factions are as good

Also, Robigo is quite entertaining in open. (y)
Is Robigo still going? Back when that big passenger rush was on as the big moneymaker I had horrible ideas about sitting around the tourist beacon in a sidewinder with a fast scanner and waiting for hollow pips to show up. I thought that pretty much dried up when void opals became the new goldrush.

OK, so headed into LFT 37 earlier, with my wake scanner, all dressed up and clean shaven, checked all signal sources, but no distribution centre, system still in famine. Do these DCs only appear for a brief time i.e. do you just have to hop around the famine systems until you find one?

Did you honk the FSS - that seems to be enough to make them show I haven't checked for a couple of days, DC have been known to change - they were there...
