PSA For those about to begin AX combat

My initial setup i know armoured is better but I wanna run real cool so I can do that cold orbiting thing and lose the shields too once I've scanned em and got my legs.
I've railed scouts in the past so not a total novice.
But I've never took on the big flowers.
So l have a few questions and feel free to suggest otherwise ref the build which doesn't exist yet. But could do by tonight.
Also ill have a carrier nearby to spawns so repairs not too essential on the fly I can always beat it back to the fc.

So once combat begins with a cyclops am l tied in or can l just high wake out?
I'll be solo so any tips would be fab. Watched all your videos Kate and its scarey. So don't wanna die in seconds.
Once you kill one how do l get paid?
Thanks in advance.

I have just started flailing about in the Witchhead Nebula using the AXI bi weave Krait build. How fortunate to find such cogent advice, dual wielding gauss and orbit technique you say? This should tip the balance and is very appreciated.

Hi Dragsham :)

I will answer in order:

Yes you can leave a thargoid fight at any time but Interceptors mass lock you up to 5km away - this is one reason a ship with a speed of over 530ms is recommended as basilisks move that fast. if not, jut perform a flyby of the goid as they are slow to turn and to accelerate :)

if you are inexperienced the best advice i can give is to keep your ship cold with heatsinks (firing one every 10 seconds) and split your gauss cannons to avoid spiking
temperature over 20 percent when firing under heatsink cover - with cyclops it only takes a few successful shots to exert and destroy a heart :)

try to move laterially (vertical/side thrsuters) as much as possible instead of the jousting common with FA ON flight. FA ON orbiting is dooable, many of our top AX pilots at AXI fly this way, using mostly downward thrust instead of the usual combat techniques relying on forward throttle of human combat works best :)

and finally when you kill one, the reward is a combat bond redeemable at any station with a combat bond contact :)

good luck on getting your first Cyclops kill CMDR ;) and if you require any more focused help please come visit us on the AXI discord!

Fantastic work. I am rubbish at fighting Thargoids, which is why I mostly do rescues and the occasional scout kills, but if I ever want to learn not to be rubbish your videos are where I will begin, and also the first thing I point people at who want to know how to do it.

I did watch your videos with interest & was very impressed....great work.

Should I ever want to branch out & start my pewpew career, then when I reach the stage were I want to down 'goids, I know what to watch & make my notes from.

Personally, I’m not too interested in “grindy” combat where the main challenge is the endurance to repeat the same motions over and over for 30 minutes using up mats to reload things until the thing eventually dies. I really prefer more dynamic combat.

That being said, what is the highest level interceptor that someone can aspire to solo without having to use up any materials for any kind of synthesis?

Is it possible to solo a hydra with sufficient skill without synthesizing a heat sink or do the current game mechanics simply not allow that?

Yes given your parameters there i suspect you are correct that AX combat would not be for you ;)

Plenty of other types of combat though :)

Basilisks can be taken out without synth - medusa maybe in ships with max util slots ;)

Thanks for this Katie, appreciate you taking the time to make these guides. The Chieftain has been rebuilt/re-engineered for ax this evening, i’ve watched your vids and im heading out to practice. Hopefully im more successful this time around.

Awesome :)

hope we see you down in the Witch Head soon ;) o7

Actually there isn't that much engineering required, I found after having a closer look at some AX builds. (Compared to PvP builds certainly) So back to my beloved guardian sites it is for me then... to hopefully join the fun soon. (and probably be utterly useless) 😅

Two more questions @Katie Byrne
In your videos you don't seem to bother with either a xeno scanner or flak launcher, any advice on that?
So Witch Head is where the action is right now?
