PSN+ account vs off line

Playing NMS didn't require a connection unless one wanted to automaticaly install patches and or upgrades, neither does Hitman. I played NMS for 3,000 hours with out all the patches by using just the disk. One day after playing for 7 months, I messed up and for whatever reason, NMS upgraded itself, with my connection speed it took 18 hours. The upgrade changed things to the tune of it's almost a different game from the original.

I would like to experience fully, playing in a multiplayer format, but with an unreliable connection, confusing such issues as "combat logging" with it, could and probably would be detrimental to my standings as a worthy player.

I believe that NMS does need an internet connection for you to upload all those fabulous discoveries, so that others can't name what you have discovered. As well as the updates and patches.

Correct, In the 8.5 months (4,000+ hours) I've played, I've never uploaded any data, nor renamed anything. I'm presently just sitting about half way through my 50th galaxy.

Billl, I hope you won't, but, I fear from the description of your onlinelinessability (sorry, couldn't think what else to call it!), that you may have some issues playing in open.

Ooh... unless this is all a clever ploy for pre-empting some future combat logging? Good one! :D

I'll start in solo, get some schooling, after which attempt open adventures to test the water.

From what I've read (don't remember where). At one time in history, ED could be played off line. MAYBE, Fdev, considering the problem most third world gsmmers have with their connections, reincorporate it.

From what I've read, they would need to create a whole new ED to be able to play offline. Now a very clever hacker / programmer could reverse engineer the BGS and build their own server on their personal LAN. It would create an alternate timeline, but theoretically it could be done. It would have to be a pretty clever hacker to break the assumed encryption scheme.

If Frontier ever shuts down ED, I do hope they release the BGS source code. In fact, release all of ED as open source. When I'm an old man in the nursing home, I'll be playing OOLITE_ED with my hologlasses, or a direct neural interface :D

Just for clarity...PSN+ can be confusing

Playstation Now - PSN ...A game streaming service (Think a game version of Netflix) playing past Sony games some of which have multiplayer. I don't think that multiplayer ED will be supported. We'll see.

Playstation Plus - PS+ ...The primary access to multiplayer games including ED. Also access to free games, early releases, patches and DLC which will be required for future ED updates.

Make sure that you purchase the correct service for ED. Even if a player doesn't want multiplayer mode they might need PS+ for the updates. Then maybe not for Solo players who might still get the updates! Nothing is very clear per Frontier or Sony. We'll see after June 27th...

One doesn't require PS+ for game updates. If you're only interested in Solo Play, you don't need any additional paid service, other than an internet connection.

Sorry to even more confusing but PSN in fact stands for PlayStation Network. The Sony service is to create your PSN ID to use various services over different platforms (PS3, PS4, smartphones, TV's, tablets etc.) but mainly the ability to play online multiplayer.

PS+ PlayStation Plus is a monthly subscription service for free monthly games, beta access and for the majority of online multiplayer on PS4. Some titles are free online like Planetside 2 and War Hammer. PS3 multiplayer does not require the paid subscription.

PlayStation Now is a separate cloud streaming service for playing PS3 titles on various devices using a DualShock controller.

The FAQ knows all.....All Hail the FAQ....

Will this require PlayStation®Plus membership to play?
Solo Play will not require PlayStation®Plus. Anything that requires direct multi-player interaction, such as Open Play, CQC, Private Groups will require PlayStation®Plus.

remember kids if it doesn't say PlayStation®Plus on the tin then it aint PlayStation®Plus.
