Thanks for all your replies.
Took a look at windows mr headsets.. sadly these are not on sale in aus and only available for 1k from amazon. Might have to go psvr. Also windows 10, i don't go there yet.
WMR headsets are way too expensive in Australia. Also, if you bother to read steam reviews, a lot of people are complaining about issues with games claiming to support WMR. A lot of people also say they're having issues remapping buttons due to the controllers not being of a standard design.
I already had move controllers from my PS3 so $329 AUD from JB HiFi for the HMD, camera and two games was too tempting.
I've got a DK2 and I can say that the screen door effect on the PSVR is almost unnoticeable. Having used the DK2 on my G1 GTX 1080, I can honestly say I wasn't that impressed by the Vive except from the room scale perspective. From what I can tell ... if you have the power to spare there are tweaks you can make to get things like text to be more readable but ... the screen door effect on the DK2 is pretty intense when you do notice it (you can put it out of mind quite easily most times).
I'll be testing the PSVR on my PC when the Nolo tracking system arrives. I actually bought Nolo for my DK2, to give it some functional controllers and tracking and with any luck breath some life back into it ... and maybe to play around with gearvr/oculus go/riftcat. Now I'll be also using it with the PSVR.
My brother has the CV1 (and oculus go), I have the DK2, I've used a Vive and I own the PSVR (not on the pro). If you just want VR and you're not after a 4K cinematic experience (which really doesn't exist outside of the Pimax 8K) then for $329 AUD + like $60 from EB for two used move controllers ($30 something a piece) ... just do it. The free game Rec Room is cross platform and will let you play with any friends you have on other ecosystems. I can't yet vouch for how good PSVR will be on PC but from what I have gleaned, if you get the settings right and your PC is powerful enough, it's not far off other dedicated PC solutions.
As for positional tracking, without Nolo you can use the PS Move controllers with an Xbox Kinect using Driver4VR but I think to track the headset you need to DIY a glowing ping pong ball or have a third move controller strapped to the headset. I'd go the ping pong ball but it's not ideal. Not sure if it is worth getting Nolo specifically for the PSVR at nearly $300 AUD.
The PSVR has it's issues, primarily the small FOV, low res and the mura effect. But it has a lot of positives too, especially comfort and ease of use. All current VR offerings fail in some way. The whole lot is a hardware early access scheme but the immersion is there and it's addicting

... If you want VR and you have a PS4 (hell you have a pro), the current price is hard to go past. The CV1 is cheap but including shipping it's still the better part of $600, probably a lot more including shipping to Australia.
