PSVR - Please FRONTIER! Take my money!!!

I learnt this in school. It goes like this...
You give me PSVR support and I give you money!
What business model are they using at Frontier Developments?
You have an install base of over 40 million PlayStation users who have the potential of owning 40 million VR headsets. From what I can see this game would be the killer app the PSVR has been waiting for!
PEOPLE WILL BUY YOUR GAME IF SUPPORTED BY PSVR!
This is a WIN WIN situation for both Sony and Frontier. Don't believe the crap that a PS4 Pro can't handle the game in VR.
Never in my career have I seen a company balls up a massive business opportunity.
As you can tell I really want this to happen because I love this game and feel VR was made for this.

BRO, dont lie. they don't teach you in school the above!!! look, I appreciate your enthusiasm and sentiment and I agree with what you are saying, I love PSVR I truly do, but, and its a BIG BUT.

1-Sony stated recently that 1mill PSVR had sold, how much time and costs do you think it would take frontier to put this out? it would not sell an additional 39 mill headsets, thats just bull, 1 mill max

2-PSVR just makes it and no more. The resolution is terrible, any game that is really decent graphically or high quality is very short-because the system is at its MAX. I love PSVR and think its amazing that the PS4 can even deal with it,but,it really does just make and no more

3-Having spent the last year, researching ED, i am convinced it is pushing the consoles to the max already, factor in VR and erm well I'm not to sure how that would go

4-If I am going to experience ED in VR then I don't want a watered down, low res version, just because,it can just be nearly possible that would be lame.

I really hope I am wrong but my 4th reason is very important to me

I personally think its clever from frontier as I don't think the market or the system is ready for console VR and I would rather they invested that money into the future and core game

PS I AM NOT A PC GAMER I AM PS THROUGH AND THROUGH

It's looking less likely for launch.

“It’s something we would love to be able to support, but we have nothing to announce right now. From a technical standpoint, Elite Dangerous is one of the PC’s most high-end VR titles, pushing even very powerful PCs to their limit. We would want to hit our own high benchmark for quality on PlayStation 4.”

Yeah, as above... I'm not sure the experience on PSVR would be the best advertisement for the game. Also, the other 39million PS users can still play without VR (To address the argument you mentioned) and it will look great.

I bet they are waiting for Sony to pay up for PSVR support.

Is not only the console users that are willing to pay for it. I'm sure they can get Sony to throw in some money too, and they just have to strike a deal that works for both of them.

Yup a planet, a space station, a sun and a few other ships all at the same time is pushing A PS4 to its limits! I don't think so. PSVR works for Eve Valkyrie.

While QCQ and planet landings may be a big challenge for Elite they could very be well excluded and PSVR only be allowed in normal space flight. I wouldn't mind pushing up the headset and viewing the normal screen at times when needed.

Everyone's unit numbers are a little off. Sony has sold 62 million PS4 consoles. PSVR has sold over 1 million units, keeping them in stock is the hold back. Sony is being very careful with production of PSVR as they are limiting production testing sales still 9 months after launch.

It may be that the PS4 is not powerful enough to run VR with high quality graphics. So it could be only for PS4 Pro.

That would be an elegant solution, but Sony doesn't allow that. They stated that the standard PS4 is compatible with PSVR and they don't want to split their platforms. Second point is, that the market of PSVR + PSPro is even smaller.

edit: btw, try Star Trek Bridge Commander, its a great VR experience

This basically :)

I'm guessing if they don't give you PSVR, you'll still give them your money. I doubt PSVR will be a make or break factor for 99% of people interested in ED - it's not that kind of game. And since they don't charge extra for VR on the PC side, I doubt they charge extra for PSVR if they can technically pull it off (based on an earlier thread).

So to answer your question, it's actually a pretty good business model.

BTW, I would be thrilled if they gave us PSVR, and once actually predicted they were saving it for a surprise E3 announcement, but the article Stormy quotes from pretty much puts the kibosh on that.

I already have the xbox version, but i'll buy the ps4 version for sure, if there is the VR support.

My apologies, I didn't realize you already have ED on Xbox. There are rumors that Xbox might be joining the VR / AR scene, especially with Scorpio coming. I bet we'll learn more about this at E3.

I agree. Valkyrie is one of the better looking games on PSVR. ED would be amazing if it equalled EV on the PSVR.

"high quality is very short-because the system is at its MAX" that's not a reason for anything to be short. That's what load screens and dynamic loading are for.
IMHO the reason the high res stuff is short is because of production cost vs sales.

oh ok? is EV the size and scope of elite? so a games size and depth is not restricted by specs? as long as there is load screens and dynamic loading you can have a game any size and spec for any system?

Per instance between loading and unloading of data and textures? I'm afraid I don't know.
What I do know is that EV has a lot of stuff going on on screen at times. However, how this would translate to ED in a ring between asteroids? No clue :/
But I can ad will remain optimistic ;)

I agree. I also don't know. I am desperate for this in PSVR but just don't want a watered down version for reasons of oh it can be done. you know, similar to playing double dragon or shinobi in the arcade and then going home to play it on your zx spectrum- it can be done, but , its not quite the same. I know everyone is different, but, this would kill me, and I would rather its released in VR on PS only when it can completely be done right. If I need to wait for PS5 & PSVR2 then id rather that.
