Pulse, burst or beam?

Burst for me, even though the modifiers might not be as lush in either direction towards Pulse and Beams, it's definitely the way to go if you think RNGineers is stoopid.

Beams all day and twice on Sunday for me. Long range thermal vent fixed, bigger the better with weapon focused power distro.

Don't like burst in general, although half damage to kinetic mod is fun on a vulture.

Pulse meh, Ok to hit smaller ships, rapid fire mod with gimbal or fixed is good.

Use beams only for the experimental effects limited to them.
Pulse and burst aren't that different, but might want to keep an eye on heat level when using burst.

I am a fan of all laser types and multi-cannons. Most of my ships only have some combination of these four weapon types.

For fixed weapons Beam all the way. When I am on target I want to do as much damage as I can, and a beam laser is the easiest to aim with because it's both hitscan & just draws a continual line so you always know when you are on target.

For turrets I'll take burst over pulse if I can spare the power capacity, I never use beam turrets, the cost (heat, distro draw) is just too high for me.

For gimbals I'll usually choose multi-cannons over any laser, after which similar rules to turrets apply - it depends on the distributor draw.

With engineering generally I prefer long range weapons on the basis that the best form of defence is to not get hit so it's the sniper life for me ;)

Of my ships that have weps:

Both Corvettes: 2 huge beams.
Krait: 3 beams.
Python: 3 beams.
Vulture: 2 beams.

So you could say that I'm a bit fond of beams. :D

OH YES!
(Fires rails, Vette shoots backwards into asteroid).

ROFLMAO!! :D

Not a fan of rails, BTBH I've not played with them much. But give me two huge rails on my vette? Where do I sign up?

Repped.

I use them all. Pulses on small ships with small distributors, burst on bigger ships in pairs or threes. If I have a bigger ship and can only fit a single laser, it's an efficient beam. For multiple lasers, I use bursts. My krait has 3 large fixed LR G5 bursts and it works wonders but can get toasty.

Which laser do you prefer and why?

It depends.
The biggest drawback for lasers is the terrible damage falloff.
So when possible, I use long range or focused engineering.

I like beams for the thermal vent special.
You can frost your ships up with those; 0% heat in no time.
But beams are very power hungry so you are limited to the efficient mod in many builds.

Bursts have the best damage/energy.

Phasing(if you use several) and scramble spectrum are useful experimental effects and bursts take well to LR and focused.

I use pulses when I don't have enough power/dist for bursts.

I find beams to be definitely the most aesthetically pleasing. Given that everything has its good and bad points, that seems to me a decent basis on which to decide.

I use efficient Beams on all my combat ships. Corvette, Chieftain, FDL, Vulture, and others. If I find I'm doing fine with power, I'll even put an overchaged beam in.

These are of course with fully engineered ships. Before engineering, I was using pulse or burst lasers I think...
