pulse wave analyzer broken?

just wanted to get back into deep core mining. was looking for some void opal hotspots. found some, regular, not overlapping. i dropped in and started to scan. most of the time it won't even show a single orange rock. let alone a core rock. just spend around half an hour shooting around 40 prospectors and not a single core.

is there something not working properly?

No, its working as intended.

Because they removed Overlaps to make them extremely rare and "Buffed*" the single hot spots the chance of finding rare mineral in a hot spot is about 1 / 30
Their idea of fun apparently is, "Why can't people just mine water for hours and enjoy it?"

*Buffed is relative so they probably changed it from 0.001% to 0.0015% and claimed it was a "Yhugggggge buff"

I have no issue with it.
If I want to Deep Core ignore all asteroids unless they glow like the sun and are burning red.

Anything that is isn't really bright you can straight up ignore if you want to do core.
The problem is - it makes scanning more of a waste of time because most of what you scan doesn't have anything you want.

For some unknown reason they are not broken for everyone. Don't believe me, don't believe them. Just try it out for yourself and avoid jumping the common panic waggon. If all these reports are true, than there's a high probability that you will also be affected. But the truth is what you see with your own eyes and can't just be "up-voted". I for one know for sure (assuming nothing will change in the near future) that core mining VOs will still work for me and where I'll pick up the game again - once I can shake off my current addiction to BG3. But even if it would work for you, it certainly can't compete with current Painite mining if you compare cr/hour. If that alone means broken to you, then yeah, it definitely is broken then. Personally, I couldn't care less as four times higher payouts can never compensate for this insane boredom that laser mining means to me.
Good luck! 😁

P.S. VO core mining requires a little more than just blindly shooting prospector limpets at orange glowing asteroids. If that's what you think, I hate to be the one telling you: Git gud. There's a lot to learn for you...

My latest theory is that the current state of the PWA is the first time, were swarm intelligence terribly fails and creative soloists who dare to trust their very own ideas, get a realistic chance to compete with the masses.
I really want to agree with you but I think the PWA is broke for everyone.

dude, i was void opal mining when it was the thing. then i was ltd mining when that was the thing. now i'm back at void opal mining, because good ole times. it's not like it used to.

yes its broken

i-can-fix-it-i-think

People keep saying its Broken, but yesterday I was able to Identify Deep core Asteroids without a problem.

If you see a Really Bright Yellow \ Red Asteroid that has "Lumpy Projections" and not "Smooth" you can be 75% confident it likely has a Core. With that said they are fairly uncommon but once you Look at the Heat Map you will know which ones to ignore and which ones to check out. Once you get closer you can tell if its going to have a Deep core or not and if you aren't sure just throw a prospector inside.

Yes, it's the latest new feature added to the game. Core mining is out this season, lasers are back in.
My mining ship is equipped for both (all three including subsurface), since sometimes while laser mining I happen across a 'roid with a core just by chance. But it is good to know that PWS is broken so that I'm not wasting time solely searching for cores.

Last time I did core mining was probably before our microscopic guest from overseas arrived or rather made it's presence known.

Laser mining is preferable anyway, I get more done per hour in general.

PWA broken for me. It scans unreliably - Rocks that showed up as bright on a previous pulse are then unable to glow again on subsequent scans - so its well broke!

You can still find cores, and they are the same scan pattern (butterkist yellow) and shape (yes its still only 1 shape of 'roid..) but the scanner doesn't always show them, so there is much more time between them.

So while there has been a nerf, I suspect its much worse than FD realise as they bugged it too.

Yes dude, so what. That is not the same as 'broken', as in unusable.

IF you can read, that's what I said. Laser mining Painite is about 4 times more efficient, yes. But also 4 times as boring. And since when is something considered broken in ED, just because it's completely out of balance? In any other game perhaps, yes. But this is ED, are you new here?

Wasn't talking to you was I?

Whatever crawled up your rectum is festering, get it sorted.

that's what i try to figure out here. many people reported that it's broken, as in not working as intended.

it certainly can still display core rocks. but often it doesn't show anything at all. if this is actually intended, which no one seems to be sure about, because fdev hasn't said anything official on that opic, then it's for sure not fun. i have nothing against a nerf, but if that means hitting the analyzer multiple times without anything happening whatsoever, so you have to fly aimlessly around, then i'd say, find other ways to nerf mining. because this way it's not fun.

just to add something that's already been mentioned. i can now absolutely 100% confirm that rocks that glowed yellow after a scan, do not glow yellow if you scan again and won't glow even after multiple additional scans. i cannot confirm the reason for that, but i was flying a 30°- 45° curve while scanning. maybe there's something wrong with the direction the scanner is working.
