Hehe, it is incredibly fun to fight T-10s. I've never seen a player-flown one before though, I guess they are rare?
I think there are many out there (out there) in space. I don't play in Open but the forum indicates plenty people use them. I've owned one, didn't keep it long. I thought it was going to be the space version of a C-130 gunship, just bringing the rain to the enemy but it turned out to be more like the C5 Galaxy, bringing troops and tanks.

Yeah, I tried one briefly also and sold mine as well. (Ugh, that spoiler!). I'll probably get another one at some point though, but it will require a lot of engineering to do what I want it to do (super long range beam turret build with thermal conduit).

With that turn radius and time, you're just a fat cow getting destroyed by jackals. Sure you can tank damage out the wazoo but unless you're doing turrets or reverski all the time, you're going to have a lot of rail gun and plasma hits from multiple angles and not get nearly as many kills as you'd get in something much smaller like an FdL. I think the Corvette is about as good as it gets for these PvE battles. I'm sure some hot shot PvPers can do it with FA Off, boost and some creative loadouts but it's more like a challenge than an asset.

Hi Commanderes,

after seeing many YT videos and read a lot of text I would like to ask if someone who really understands how that scanner works can explain it to me, it would be much appreciated as my blood preassure is dangerously high already :D

So I went into rings scaning all around. Time to time theres quite bright asteroid, when I check it with prospector limpet which from unknown reason keeps dieing very often I find only water and low amount. About that prospector...I thought its me flying too fast or too slow or pitching so I smash it. After many experiments this still has to be proven somehow as pretty much sometimes its released at 250 and its fine and sometimes its dieing while I fly at 80, straight ahad, no pitching. So I cant wrap my mind around this.

Anyway that scanner...it seems like there are 2 stages of what it display, feels like surface and after that maybe inside?!
Is there any official How to from Frontier as Im used to have manual for a game I bought.

Can some experienced miner somehow explain how it works step by step for idiots please? Preferably someone who really knows how it works not someone whos repeating what some old lady said.

Thanks a lot and sorry for ranting :D At least I found some opals and low temperature diamonds but I don't see any connections...
I also tried to distinct good asteroids from bad and the first few times out I didn't find much. Mostly fakeroids which glowed but didn't yield anything. After a while though I had a feeling for good and bad rocks and started finding a lot fissuroids to explode. For me it definitely was getting used to and experience, like eveything else in Elite.
I really wouldn't have thought it would work that well the first time out mining.
That said, some of the completely worthless asteroids are glowing much to brightly, yeah.

In another thread myself and other color blind CMDRs mentioned the difficulty of telling these apart. I think a lot of normal vision CMDRS have problems too. Would be nice to have maybe blue glow for core asteroids instead?

In my limited experience I find that it depends where you are as to the color of the best asteroids to mine, some will be very bright yellow in the initial wave and still a bright yellow on the fall off. Others will have a bright yellow with many black lines- indicating fracture lines- core mining. Then in some rings the bright yellow is not what you are looking for they will be very bright red.

I wanted to use something else than Pythoon, which I love. My ship progress was Viper > CZ > Pythoon so I skipped every small and medium ship (in 2 days). Never ever needed to go under Pythoon. But after all theres good reason for that as time is limited and Pythoon helps to not waste it. Already back in Pythoon Jack of All Trades.

Mining is the first roll where I have been comfortable with the Python, I have always felt a little underwhelmed with it. Goes to don armour and prepare for the stones and cries of heretic.

The Cobra Mk3, especially since receiving the additional 2 slots, is becoming my favourite mining ship.

It's fast, very maneuverable, and is able to fit all required gear, with 20t cargo (or more if you're prepared to sacrifice certain modules) you get to have a go at two cores max. It makes you using prospector limpets sparingly, which also trains you in evaluating a rock better - what I do is speed through the ring until I see a rock that glows almost white, then get really close and look out for fissures (easy to see given you can get close to it so easily with this ship). Only when I spot them do I fire a prospector.

Because cargo space is limited, a core hunting trip never gets boring, and the agile handling of the ship is fun whizzing inbetween the asteroids.

Now that we can probe the rings and know where the hots[pots are before we dive in, how important is it to be able to speed through the ring looking for the white glowing rocks??
