lol. like when the launcher fails because of steam sales. This may come as a shock to you, but the internet is made of a complex set of connected pipes, any of which can fail - guessing a specific one doesn't make it so

I'm not so sure, the internet looks pretty simple and basic to me:

When they change things on live servers, or update the game, launcher usually works just fine.
It sometimes fails, but it probably has nothing to do with game updates, but more likely changes or faults within Frontier own servers. For all we know, Zed could've just tripped over the power cable in the server room, or they needed to restart the router.

This happens periodically when launcher has connection issues. I get all the time - login/buy etc. Just kill it and restart until it gets connected.
