PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

... :D

Oh, I get you now. Yes, I agree Elite's visuals are one of its strongest points. Still, I also go with gameplay over graphics, as that's what keeps you invested and playing for the long term. I think that's where Elite fails for me, and I hope NMS will learn from that and have a strategy to make sure they can fill their worlds with more meaningful activities.

What what what? You mean you'd rather have some interesting deep game play mechanics to provide rewarding gameplay, rather than designs rewarding dozens of hours of unchallenging grind per weak? Madness! - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=156576&p=2413729&viewfull=1#post2413729

But you know nothing about the gameplay? We've seen you can wonder around a procedural environment - note: they always looks very samey to me - but we really have no idea of what you'll do, and most importantly, how interesting it will be.

Thus far it looks like you land on a planet, find creatures, scan then, and upload the info. TBH doesn't seem that inspiring?

Well if you watched the trailer for E3 as well as some of their recent videos (from earlier this year on youtube), it seems mining can be done on planet, scanning and so forth, the environment and eveything in it is destructable, that suggests to me anyway that you can collect goods via hunting / mining / and possibly collecting live lifeforms (that would be so cool IMHO) and can take them to other places to sell them or sell them at trading posts etc... planetary scans, wildlife scans, combat zones etc and I like the aspect of their exploration system, you do not know whats at a planet till you go there and then everyone gets to know what is there when you upload your data :D

Ship, suit and weapons upgrades from certain places which you will have to discover or others will have to discover, but every solar system will have a trade centre and all the ships are procedurally generated so different types of ships for everyone, which you can then outfit as you find suitable upgrade places or replace at shipyards with other generated ships... I like how it all sounds at least... and yes I think the way they have gone about the scanning of planets etc it adds a new dynamic to exploration which sadly, ED is seriously missing

I like the trailer where they showed the alien temples :D interesting concept that... Requiring specific weapon or weapons or other items to open them... for a teleport closer to the centre of the galaxy...

I know it will be different to ED in so many ways... That is for sure... and no doubt I will play both...

Will be fascinating if mining and the like is more interesting in NMS than ED...

It's not the cartoony style I was referring too. It was the spaceship design/graphics, both the outside and especially the cockpit design, that I was referring too. I felt it looked quite blocky and rather 1990s in appearance, still there is plenty of time to improve the texturing etc. (and they may be better in reality than on the video) before release and anyway I've always felt gameplay is more important than graphics. The reason I commented on it is because I consider the graphics in Elite to be the one part of the game that is truly first class.

indeed the graphics in ED are truely first rate for the genre in all aspects IMHO, but there has to be more to a game than pretty pictures...

The first elite was so engaging at the time even with wireframe, then we got elite plus which was the first one with colour and polygons.
The second was wow now we have polygons and we have night and day on planets and we can land on planets, then come the 3rd one which improved on that and now we have the 4th installment and the graphics are truely wonderful, but the gameplay is (to a large extent) not even same as the first 3 with aspects definitely still missing (but hopefully coming in the future)
