PvP Pvp - Efficient or long range plasma

I use efficient plasma on my krait mk2, mostly for PvE , takes down the larger ships wonderfully, not so good against agile small ships as harder to hit.

Long range may be useful i would imagine as long as your enemy is not aware they are under fire.
I would think it would be quite easy to evade shots from greater range. Longer shot time to target etc.

Using efficient i can run 5 plasma - 3 large and 2 medium PA, can manage the power with a OC power plant or guardian power plant.
Heat will be an issue with several PA, as well as the power draw.

Mostly i use them at close range, <500m , rarely miss with practice, leading the target if its moving.
A hit from 5 PA , even efficient is enough to drop Elite Anaconda shields in just over 1 volley. 3-4 good strikes and it is dead.

Tried some friendly PVP with a wingmate with the same setup, was fun dueling to see how good they were.
I run a low heat setup, 17% heat so can be used with a stealth build. If they dont see you approach you can get a killer strike in at close range before they can target you effectively, if they see you at all.

Well it’s simple cause efficient is best if you can land the shots [smile]. I have a combination of long range PA’s and efficient PA’s on one of my Kraits, just like you but no Imperial Hammers. The two mediums and the middle large are efficient, and the two other large are long range. I mainly use the two long range for small targets or targets far away to take advantage of the high shot speed. Functions really well and it’s one of my most fun ships to fly. But to go all long range is rarely functional because of heat/power/distributor problems.

Cheers guys, looks like efficient are popular which is what I have but I suck using them in pvp due to slow shot speed and my own inability at current lol. I may engineer some LR and post back how I get on.

Also helps to practice your fixed aim skills in PvE, you can improve your aiming skills there until you feel ready for PvP.

I run 5x efficient PA's, with a mixture of secondaries, on my Krait. It is my fave setup. I did mix long range and efficient, but the reticle confusion did my nut in, so I now run all 5 as efficient. The small ships are easier if you time it on a pass.

Sorry but Focused!

LR & Focused both have the same shot speed advantage but Focused has a damage drop off from around 3.5 km. However unless you are firing at planets I've never seen how the extra range for LR is really useful.

Focused has more than double the piercing stat than LR.

I'm using build with up to 3 Focused PA's* and with the right powerplant (thermal spread on OC'd) the cool down roughly equals the reload time so I don't have much issue with heat.

Always 2 x C3 and sometimes an additional C2 PA.

Mostly I back these up with a mix of Feedback and Superpen LR Rails.

PA’s already have a piercing value of 100 which means full damage on all human ships, so it’s futile to increase that. Also - if I put Focused on all the PA’s on my Krait it would mean 25% extra heat, which would be a problem and unnecessary.

Focused is not a god idea on PA’s IMO, unless you want to save weight compared to Long Range, but how often do you want to do that on a combat ship. But yes, it happens.

What if i told you that there are in the game focused plasmas with crazy heat reduction, where people can stack plenty of them with no problem? Yea people have them, but you cannot obtain them or engineer weapons like those.

There is no other so much pvpcentric weapon like LR/focused PA. Btw, using LR/focused requires to build ship around weapons if more than 1 than vice-versa.

Then why is that relevant if OP can’t get them? I guess you mean from the time when we did the random rolls?

Not really done much pvp and am undecided about efficient plasma vs long range. What's the general concensus? I'm not a great combat pilot but am practicing, so thinking long range plasmas may help.

Here's my current build

Firstly what type of combat are you wanting to build for?
Secondly your build is ok but won't last long in PvP.
Any multicanon fdl/gunship etc will eat your ship as will a hitscan build.
You need mrps and for a biweave build 518 is pretty slow.

Lastly efficient are 9 times out of ten a better option.
Slow shot speed but the damage reduction from lr/foc is severe.

Because it puts things into perspective, when someone asks this or the other and he finds out that there is no level playfield.

That pvp is unbalanced at the moment, which pretty much makes irrelevant in many cases the choice of the specific weapons in pvp. Have you ever been shot by those kind of grandfathered weapons?

Probably. Don’t really care. PvP is imbalanced, everyone knows this, but sometimes it’s still fun to shoot each other anyway.

OP seems to understand that.

That's what i thought.
You don't really care, so all the others probably should't care either, right? But maybe those who engage in pvp do care.
You know what they say about opinions, but try to understand why a level playfield is important, even on activities that you.. "don't care".
