PVP Instances

This would likely be seen as deviating from the "realism" of the game. Yes, players from across the galaxy would temporarily be together.

But, I think this would be very welcomed by your user base. And, I think it would go a long way to keeping customers playing and getting new customers.

There should be a way to sign up for PVP instances. Think World of Warcraft battlegrounds. Just adapt them to spaceflight.

x v.s. x players deathmatch (1 v.s. 1, etc) no frame shift or jump drives. Would have to limit distance from a center beacon (like go too far, lose 1%/sec hp) so you aren't searching for hours for that guy who flew off trying to get you to forfeit.
attack/defend - team gets a large base to defend. attacking team's objective is to blow up the base. hull strength not up to what a real base's is. given a time limit, then teams reverse, and faster team wins, or if neither completes, a draw. perhaps defenders can go out and fight, come back in the base to repair. perhaps there's a second base a little ways away with resources to install defense guns on the base - this allows attacking team to decide which to hit first, etc.
simultaneous attack - each team gets a large base, first team to destroy other's wins. perhaps some way to get resources or upgrade your base, or summon police forces.

etc.

With the servers randomly assigning people to each team, trying to somewhat balance the teams. So there's not 5 sidewinders vs 5 anacondas.

With there not being a death penalty, or at least a substantially less insurance bill.

And, with there being credits given to the winning team players.

I realize there may be resistance against the loss of "realism" aspect. But wouldn't the benefits outweigh this?

Nope, terrible idea. If you want PvP go fight someone, not have the game handhold you through it.

I get the idea you are going for OP but I rather just see this take place naturally in the game world.

There is nothing stopping people from organizing "tournaments" in some anarchy system somewhere. You could then assign certain areas within that system to certain classes of ships.

Actually I would like a simulated (ie that would be consider fight inside virtual reality) pvp (or pve for that matter) arena. The idea is to be able to see the capabilities of my ship without entering real fight (which I don't want most of the time) and losing lots of money (as an insurance would likely not insure you for a to death tournament).

Though the game is a simulation, this should not be real battle as real battle should organized within the game frame work (and I think would be illegal in most system).

Go fight someone, get chided on forums as being a social misfit. Want to fight people who want to be fought....Chided....without reason....what is your reason for it being a terrible reason again...Oh yeah....not one

By putting things like this in, I think it would make the game more arcade than simulation. I'm not for this.

Because evolution doesn't drive us to be competitive? Because in a thousand years...after roughly 50,000 years of human evolution, we will all be "over that" by the year 3000. No, no sir. There will still be a winner and a loser circle. Without it makes it more arcade.

erm...ok!

It sounds like just the same old FPS pvp mechanics seen everywhere. Just players fighting with no context. I love sims because they are not this. Watch some of Isinona's Flight Assist Off Series on you tube. Especially the Hunted vid and see how exciting PvP in Elite can be when you allow yourself to get lost in the immersion of the Elite galaxy and just play.

I agree for real pvp, but I would like a VR training center. This is not intended to be the usual gaming way.
