PVP players needing acess to Activities.

Ah yes, Elite and ganking.. reminds me of the early days of Ultima Online before Trammel and Felucca. Or Solo and Open equivalent for those unfamiliar. Ultima Online, which was not a PvP game but a sandbox game that allowed PvP, absolutely had great PvP. But it also had dedicated servers x.x

I'm gonna pitch in and say I too am disappointed with the surprisingly few options presented for PvP in this game. I remember when I started the game I quickly found conflict zones and bounty hunting in res sites to get my pew pew on. But the only other thing I've found since then is space bug hunting. I saw capital ships in conflict zones and thought we had a Federation vs Empire thing going on but we don't. I assumed Power Play was the war mechanic that would drive end game PvP but alas I have recently discovered it is not. It seems that PvP in Elite is limited to ganking or duels/tournaments and that's a shame.

Many years ago I played a terrible yet awesome game called Space Cowboy Online. Very much Starfox level of gameplay and typical MMO pve mob grind for levels but it was a blast because of the simple yet effective nation war mechanic it had. Two factions always at war, with every 100k player kills spawning a big Mothership that needed to be attacked or defended for rewards. The simple fact that players fighting spawned something to fight over made fights happen.

That's what's needed imo, a basic consensual PvP system between two factions that players can choose to take part in or not with tangible rewards for participation win or lose. I'd like to log in to the game and ask chat, "Where's the fighting at cmdrs?" Much like the first days of our little Thargoid invasion, except for PvP.

I understand and accept that's not likely to ever happen so if anyone can point me to the latest PvP oriented space sim with epic space battles I'd appreciate it. Hopes and prayers til then.

EDIT - Elite doesn't even have a guild war mechanic for squadrons!? The devs knew people were gonna wanna shoot each other right? I'm with the OP. No wonder ganking is such a prevalent issue, there is literally no other outlet provided in the game for those that want human opponents. Humans playing online games tend to behave like water in that they will usually take the path of least resistance (ganking) but they will also fill the volume of a container (consensual PvP systems). I take it CQC was supposed to be that system but it is so far removed it's essentially a separate game. What a shame.
