PvPers/PvEers - Find a friend from the other side!

Have you ever found yourself on the forums, at loggerheads with a rabid PvPer/PvEer, spending precious time arguing about your relative chosen playstyles? Have you ever accused PvPers of being griefers or PvEers being carebears?

Its often simply due to one side not really understanding another. Perhaps not being capable of understanding each other.

Well, before i continue, i'll share a little experience. Recently, i've become communicatively involved with a hardcore PvPer. I must admit, i was filled with tripidation at first. Would he treat me roughly? Would he try and dominate me? But after our first tentative communications, i was surprised to discover that they were actually a relatively normal person. No hint of baby eating or anything like that.

I'd like to introduce the community to my new chat buddy, CMDR Rinzler (the o7o7o7 may or may not be optional... i've not reached that level of familiarity yet). Yes, this is CMDR Rinzler from SDC, that rather well known and controvertial player group.

Now, i'm sure this will shock many. I've been rather coy about coming out as you might imagine. A hardened PvPer speaking normally with a hardened PvEer? No flames! No disrespect! Just listening to each others opinions and nicely discussing them.

And it got me thinking. What if every PvPer and PvEer who is capable of being reasonable, could make a friend from the other side? I certainly don't expect anyone to be converted from being a PvPer to a PvEer or vice versa. But having a friend on the other side, might help bring the two sides together, and make some of the stronger PvP/PvE discussions more moderate and friendly. You might start to write something scathing, and then think "Hey, my friend might not like this, maybe i should write something a bit more considerate?"

So, here we go, the first ever (and possibly last!), PvP to PvE matchmaking thread!

Find your PvP/PvE soulmate. A troubled and misunderstood player, just looking for love and symapthy.

There are no obligations. No lube is required. Just find a player from the other side, and arrange to be forum and in-game friends. Not even an obligation to meet up in-game or real life. Just talk to your new friend via whatever channel you prefer, one on one. Of course, no reason a PvPer or PvEer cannot have several friends, the more the merrier! And best of all, its legal! ;)

Just make a post here, stating your orientation (PvP/PvE) and that you are looking for a friend from the other side, and see who bites!

Note 1: This thread might attract a bit on innuendo. However, keep in mind, this is a family friendly forum, so keep it to a reasonable level so posts don't get removed.

Note 2: Please, do not try and turn this thread into an open vs solo debate or a PvP/PvE debate. It is solely for those willing to open comms with differently minded people. There are other threads to debate such things.

I tried to give this a go, was all set to be soul-mates with a PvP fanatic, but got interdicted mid-match-up and now I'm best buddies with a hardcore trader.

Thanks Agony_Aunt, thanks a lot.

Pretty sure my friends lists is already a mish mash of PvP and PvE

Most likely because I'm agnostic in regards to preferred play style.

I don't believe in any the restrictions PvE folks want on Open

And I don't care for the divorce of Open and Group/Solo BGS supported by the PvP folks

They lured you in with cookies, didn't they? "We have cookies on the dark side!", they said, didn't they? And you fell for it!

:)

There are jerks on both sides of the PVP/PVE fence, of course, just like any where. I've been both a PVPer and a PVEer. Same guy, both hats. Nowadays I'm all PVE, got tired of the gankers and general machismo of the PVP environment. But sure, there's a few nice people who PVP. Of course.

I guess to me it's not a matter of hating true PVP'ers, it's just I don't get their rush they get.

Thats one of the core issues right there.....

You dont have to "get it". I have been met with nothing but scorn and derision from some here just for mentioning the much needed PvP QoL fixes that would benefit not only PvP but the entire game. I "dont get" PvE, find it quite boring actually (although do enjoy a well made quest chain etc), but I UNDERSTAND that my treasure is another mans junk, and there we have a major issue prevalent here. There are some that proclaim ED to be PVE etc with PvP as an afterthought, which doesnt compute because WHY would FD waste so much man hours creating a game mode where PvP is a big part? Wasnt by accident thats for sure. I'm all for getting along, as long as there is pie :)

Something I could get behind. Like I said in a post earlier, we need to do something before the community completely collapses in on itself :)

*edit: That said I dont know what classification I fall under. I'm a guy who doesn't mind pvp, approves of pve and is in favour of fair competitive gameplay.

Imagine shooting hoops by yourself/with a few friends vs playing against another team in an organized basketball game. That's about as simply as I can out it. Some people love genuine, higher stakes competition. Some dont. Nothing wrong with either stance, they're just different tastes.

I personally wear both hats, with a lean towards PvP. Come to think of it, most of what I do PvE side is to support my PvP play, so maybe a notable PvP lean. My friends list is split almost 50/50 between PvE and PvP players.

I've learned a lot about the game, and met great people, through both PvE and PvP interactions. Truth be told, I feel one cannot make the most of ED without both experiences. But that's just me. I keep my KOS list in the same notebook as my exploration notes.

I'll happily interact with pilots on both sides of the aisle, so long as they arent jerks. Jerks I hunt.

I'll also say this: I would do more PvE if there was more deep, meaningful, and engaging PvE content. As it stands now, I really don't think there is much of it. If FD can create a genuinely engaging, deep, and interactive galaxy, we may be surprised at just how seamlessly PvE and PvP play blend together. As of now, PvE and PvP stand in stark contrast with one another because PvP accomplishes nothing PvE side, and vice versa.

Hmm...... seems like some people don't get the idea of this thread.

I didn't have particularly high hopes for it, but come on people, is it that hard? It was nice to see Asp Explorer here. but even he missed the point. Its not about meeting up in game, its about talking to each other.

Let's try and at least close the divide. We all love the game (well, barring the obvious exceptions), so we do have common ground.

There may be a lot of spite in the forum but I don't think the people here are really that polarised. I have never got the impression that PvP/PvE is a real battle between irreconcilable enemies. It's all people playing a game and getting annoyed that some random dude or dudette doesn't agree with them on an internet forum. I'm not sure people are REALLY upset enough with each other to require a reconciliation.

Me, I'm hardcore solo. I´m playing my own game. It's my galaxy and I'll plod my own way through it thanks and yet I also spend large amounts of time blowing commanders up (and getting blown up rather a lot too) in CQC.

I won't be home from work for a couple of hours - but I think I'll give it a try. I've got another CMDR in the bubble, can't remember just where though.

I enjoy participating in all aspects of Elite. I recognize the frustration that can occur when a "open" only player who enjoys the thrill of hunting, and being hunted by other humans, attempts to mess with the BGS, and their efforts are thwarted by unseen and unknown players playing in a private or solo setting. I also understand the frustration that a "pve" player gets when playing in open and then is seemingly killed for no good reason. (in their mind) I'm currently Deadly in Combat, Elite in Trading, and almost Elite in Exploration. I really have played most aspects of this game. What I don't understand is this imaginative edict that someone must play in only one mode.

I freely swap modes depending on what I'm doing. I admit that I only log into Open "generally" when I'm flying a fully combat fitted vessel. I also admit that if I'm going to do a shieldless max cargo run or something, I generally swap to solo or private in order to lessen the risks involved with an already foolhardy endeavor. However, given all of that, I most certainly qualify as someone who believes open should stay as open as possible. The extra risks involved with allowing humans to behave however they want in a fantasy setting is tantalizing to me, and would effectively break the game mode if that risk was mitigated somehow, beyond the obvious answer of mitigation already existing in the form of the other two modes.

I even occasionally go on rampages, where the entirety of my play session is devoted to killing anything I come across. Some of my most epic fights have been just outside a station, slaughtering security as well as players that get too close. I don't feel some type of moral obligation to keep them alive, as this is a game, and I feel that by virtue of logging into open, you implicitly accept the potential consequences of that action.

I would be happy to be "friends" with whoever because I generally have no problem talking to anyone.

I must note though, I only have a handful of friends on my friends list. Three of them have come from me interdicting, and subsequently assaulting their persons in open, with zero reason to do so. The only reason we became friends is that at the last moment I decided to curb my blood lust and simply destroy their drives. I managed to teach all 3 of them that you can reboot and repair from that state, at least enough to get home, and that they were not going to have to face a rebuy. I must emphasize though, when I'm in that mood, the only thing that managed to save those CMDR's rebuys at the time was a coinflip. A literal coinflip that happened to land one way instead of the other. Had tails came up for any of them, they would have had rebuys.

I also have been vented into space more times than I can count, with a current rebuy career cost in the hundreds of millions. Fly safe out there commanders!

Ladies and gentlemen. What we have here is a poor soul that is trapped between the world of PvP and PvE. Would anyone like to be his friend?

I also hear he likes rainy days and outdoor activities... if that means anything to anyone :p
