PvP Python beaten by Diamondback. How to do PVP better?

Hi guys, long story short, diamondback (explorer or scout, idk which one) found me when off-supercruise and engaged me. I have a new Python and although it is not fully upgraded (it could use some better shields), it is fully weaponized and most upgrades have been done. Well, how to say. I didn´t just get beaten, I got obliterated, humiliated, destroyed. Luckily the guy was looking just for a friendly fight so he let me live, but I didn´t even break one single layer of his shields, I hit him like, once. Now my question is, what the hell? Either of diamodnacks is totally outclassed and outgunned when compared to Python, I should at least be able to put some serious fight and stand my ground... I found out he engineered his weapons, while mine are basic, does it make SUCH a difference? Does it even make sense to do PVP without Horizons then?

The Python is a large, relatively slow target, and will take significant piloting ability to fight someone who knows what they are doing in a Diamondback.

Engineering also makes an enormous difference, to the point that if you don't have Horizons, you are at an extreme, often insurmountable, disadvantage in PvP.

When you mention Diamondbacks you automatically think explorer ships. But they can be pretty good combat ships. I just recently discovered that the scout is a good alternative to a Cobra or Viper. They're not the fastest of the small ships but they can be quite agile. They also have 4 utility slots for shield boosters. They can have a class 3 or 4 shield plus don't forget guardian shield boosters can push the smaller ships into the 800mj range.

when you say "Diamondback" i immediately have to check Archon Fury's youtube channel

just a hint - you can see there how he beats almost every ship except the big 3 with his sidewinder (or sometimes DBS)

Ahahah I wonder if it was Mr Fury xD

Get a smaller ship man, they do absolutely wreck in PvP in the right hands, hard to target, fast and can have reasonable DPS for thier weight.

Viper MKIV is a good place to start as it gets a very disproportionate manuverability buff with FAoff.

It's not hugely fast, but it goes sideways better than almost anything else, abuse the laterals and you'll be running rings round most bigger ships, might take a little while to adjust but its a good starting point.

This though^^

the crazy thing about Fury, is the that he hardly uses FA-off in his fights.
just crazy circling and chaff that makes it REALLY hard to hit him.

Engineers is the grind wall to PvP. And yes, it makes SUCH a difference. Don't do the crime if you can't do the grind...

Him and his DBS failed to beat this PVP noob in his PVE Vulture. Note the state of my lightweight alloys and shields. And I thought you PVP people were meant to be gods :p

Fixed beams OP.

haha, i wanted to write the same.
especially when there are so many topics out about how op chaff is.

and yes, AF is not a god - but he is not bad either.
I had one encounter with him in my Adder, and i survived despite doing everything wrong that i could (did you know that dumbfire missiles are affected when you fire them with >200% heat ?)

Put 2 Turrets on Python—1 MC and 1 PL—-The DBS is a great Explorer and a capable fighter

Turrets are annoying, nothing more. If they are not engineered and the shields of the DBS are modified to soak up kinetic and thermal damage, it won't do much...

[noob] Often, it isn't the arrow that wins the fight, it is the Indian. I suggest you work on polishing up those combat skills instead of relying on your ship's firepower to win the day.

Get into a smaller, relatively under-powered ship like an Eagle and head out to the HazRES. Combat in a small ship will force you to learn to rely on your combat maneuvering skills, your power management skills, your ability to stay tucked close-in behind your opponent, to point your ship at the target and ability to properly engineer you ship. A small ship like an Eagle also has a relatively inexpensive rebuy, something to consider since if you are doing it right, you will probably get your ship shot out from under you several times as you learn to fight.

When you can effectively fight an Eagle consider moving up to a Vulture and when you can survive in that ship, get into a Fer-De-Lance or a Krait Mk. II. Remember also that fighting in the "big" ships is a different animal than fighting in the smaller ships requiring different tactics but it is still important to learn how to fight in the small ships so you know what tactics will be used against you when fighting in a larger ship. o7

Don't forget that there are guardian shield reinforcements in the game now. I have a DBX with amazing shields and armor.

The guardian shield reinforcements have changed the game

Also, kinda engineered isn't fully engineered and if you're gonna drop into a pvp area you better be ready to take a hit.
