Python Kit, Anaconda Kit and Viper MkIII Kit on the store

Oh, here's an image BTW.

Say what you like about Engineering your ship, but the ship kits, paint jobs and engineer modifications do a great job of creating individuality (if it's important to you and you don't mind the extra money!).

Nice job.

Python one looks ok. Couple of nice pieces there. Viper one has a few good pieces too (although the less said about the vampire fangs the better). Can't stand the Anaconda one though, didn't think it was possible to make that ship look uglier.

I think the Anaconda is a great looking vessel.
I am not to sure about the kit though.

But the Python Kit is the one I have been waiting for.

And... mmm... FD?
I really want, I mean... I really need a Cutter kit.

I'm terribly, terribly upset. Not because the three new ship kits look bad, on the contrary I think all three look fantastic. No, I'm mad because it's just making the Asp Explorer kit, my favorite ship in the game, look that much worse than it already does. I'd love to buy the Asp kit if it wasn't the worst kit in the game. Makes me wonder if the team doing these ship kits just doesn't like the Asp or something, because the majority of the other kits have been great.

Grrrrrrrrr.....

I've got to admit I'm disappointingly underwhelmed by the Anaconda kit. That ship is so close to perfection anyway that they really needed to go all out to make the kit worthwhile, and it just isn't. The images in this thread make it look a bit better than FD's store images, but it's still... meh. The Viper is similarly weak, except for the bit that fills in the gap at the front which is quite interesting. Less so the fangs that turn it into a bottle opener.

But that Python kit is every bit as gorgeous as the sneak peeks promised. I can see me buying two lots of that kit before the weekend is out, and neither of my CMDRs even flies a Python at the moment. One of them won't be able to afford one for another few months. But I want that kit to be in the hangar, waiting...

For me I think the trouble with a lot of the ship kits is they either seem to go one of two ways.

The original ships have a character to them, either the kits exaggerate that, in which case they have a tendency to look over the top, almost a caricature of themselves. (see viper fangs)

Or they smooth things out, fill in the gaps, making the ship look more generic which means they lose their character.

It's often the rear spoilers that go against this, it's those bits that actually add something new, independent of the ship's current character. And (well for me) it's often the spoiler parts which look the best.

I'm thinking Frontier should take another tack, design new ships as a whole, using the current ships as a base, not just taking parts in isolation. Create 3 actual new (say) Python designs and then produce bits that fit that.

I feel like they achieved this with the Vulture kit, the variation where they joined up the wings.
