Python or gunship?

If you had to choose from python or gunship pure combat build. What would you pick

Both quite slow and sluggish as combat goes. Both have similar fire power and power distributor size.

I havent tryed the gunship yet and i like my python but im not keen on it in combat.. thogh i tend to fly it as a multi roll or pyrate ship so i dont have much experience with it set up for pure combat. This may be skewing my opinon of it.

What one would you choose and why?

If you've already tried the python in combat, then the decision has made itself.
Get the Gunship.

I rather like my Gunship - fighter hanger, 5 PA's and 2 Beam Lasers.

Gunship is Funship.

Not even a comparison. Python all the way.

But my guess. You are gonna get different answers from everyone - best idea if you have the money is to buy each and try them both. Python is difficult to fly and takes time. But it can keep up with fdl in a 1v1 battle if tuned right

Python. It can do everything well.

But have you tried the Battle Asp? Engineered, it's fun to fly, nimble and can stand toe to toe with any NPC (or wing of NPCs as long as you don't take on more than 1 wing at a time). It's a big target for humans, but if you're considering the Gunship, it sounds like you're going after NPCs anyway.

Gunship if you like something to have a bit more personality in combat. The Python is a boring jack of all trades that trivializes pretty much everything aside from exploration.

Python all the way. Gunship looks like someone welded some broken wing stubs onto a boxcar and threw it out the airlock.

IMO for pure combat: FerDL. o7

Well pvp or pve its all the same to me as i always build for both.. i used to build for longevity in pve but now i have to do that for pvp as well as alot of fights last 20 minutes or more. So now i just build for combat..

Which is exactly why you want one. It's like a scrappy boxer that took too many to the face. Rocky Balboa vs Ivan Drago. Also, putting a strong minion in the SLF adds a good amount to how much pain the FGS can dish out.

Python is miserable in combat. It’s huge. It’s hitbox IS the side of a barn. It’s not maneuverable even with FA off, the speed/agility is barely acceptable, and the time on target is lackluster.

Get a Gunship. Load it up with a fighter. Load up with armor and module/Hull Reinforcement and engineer until you have more hitpoints than most large ships in the game. Biweave shields, go for good resists and quick recharge. Then you add seven multicannons, G5 overcharged with one corrosive. When you start a fight, hit the special FGS maneuverability buff (FA OFF). Power drift with boosters, and strafe everything with multis and it all dies. Everything. The FGS does YAW better than PITCH, so learn to roll the ship and yaw to the side instead of climbing or diving.

A python has to be careful in a CZ, watching for too many enemies lest it get overwhelmed and blown up.
A Gunship only has to watch the ammo counter, because you will only die if that hits zero.

The options are gun ship or python.. i alredy have an fdl and it bores me.. just so mainstream

Combat performance is much better in the gunship. People will recommend the Python for tons of reasons, but they are all moot if all you want is the best combat ship of the two.

The python has more pitch speed than a FGS.. and can even more armor especialy as the choce for a fighter isnt on the cards..

Pluss multicannons especially all multis makes me sick. And i too have watched the daka video.

I do agree about the feeling of barn sized ness in a python and its kinda whats making me feel the FDS is the choice to be made dispite the lower armor potential and smaller shields.

I might buy one and chuck some canibaled parts from other ships and give ot a test run in a haz res just to see.

Realy im just a bit bord and want a new ship to fiddle with so i thought i would re visit some ships i wrote off in the past for various reasons.. im not a fan of fed ships.. they smell of oppression

Fer De Lance maybe? Nothing beats the huge hardpoint on it.

May i refer you to post #11[big grin]

Yeah, ‘unique’ doesn’t exactly describe the python either, it’s a hugely popular ship. It’s a great ship, don’t get me wrong. I sold one and ended up rebuying it because it’s so GOOD at hauling, deliveries, recovery, mining, scanning, etc. It’s even great at protecting itself while hauling from random pirates. But it’s no good in a CZ or any dedicated combat.

Viper or Vulture a possibility? The vulture is cheap, kills almost everything, faster than greased lightning, and more fun than a bottle of Captain Morgan.

Are you needing a ship ONLY for combat? Gunship. Her firepower + ship launched fighter makes for a truly frightening fighter for its price point. I personally prefer her over the FdL.

Do you need a ship that can do everything? Python. It's considered one of best ships in the game for a reason. Python owners never ever get rid of her as she is just too damn useful.

I have 4 vipers an eagle an ieagle an adder 5 vultures 2 anacondas FAS FDL 2 couriers a cobra and a DBS that are all pure combat builds. They all have there flavour but im looking for a new flavour:p
