Newcomer / Intro Q: Naval progression in Sol and travelling there

Yeah, If you have a cobra youll be good. And unless you manage to off the feds, you will be fine with security. And with the OnionHead Rares, thats what I thought too. That in the GalNet the Federation stated they will not allow onionhead in their territory. Which says to me if you get scanned, you are screwed. But I havent traded rares yet so I could be 100% wrong lol - but now that I have a cobra I think I might try and find a decent rares route - was the average per full load of rares that you can pull in?

I just started a rare run and it seems the point of them is you don't need much cargo space, as there are not many to buy. Cos they're rare, so there's not many of them. I guess this is compounded if other CMDRs are doing the same route and buying up the rare products too. Don't know how profitable it will be yet.

Edit: Just read this in the Mostly Harmless guide, looks like other players don't impact the amount of rares available to buy:

Each player has his own 'allocation' of rares; don't be afraid that you'll get to the station and someone else will have taken all of the rares, that's not how it works.

There are quite a few resources available on rare trading including route planners, advice further down on this very section, etc.

Cobra Mk3 specced for range is great for these runs, 52 cargo space.

eliteraretrader.co.uk has a map that you can plan a route on

check out thread number t=115357 for a nice ready made route.

Thanks for the tip :) Any other advice on things to check out are appreciated.

While in Sol, if you scan about, you might see something labeled "Deep Space - 2,500,000ls" - Its a hell of a long way in SC, but IMHO worth the trip
(Please no spoilers peeps - Sure people can spoil it themselves if they want)
