[QUALITY CONTROL] BEYOND - Insert your thoughts...

Hello CMDR's!

In light of the new "Beyond" release, I was wondering how the community feels about this new release?

1. Did FDEV go beyond your expectations or did they fall short this time?

2. What would you have liked to seen released in the Beyond patch? Or how could the release have been better?

3. What features did you like about the new release?

Best patch for ages.

Shame remote workshop can't convert grandfathered modules, and that the guardians stuff requires repeating the same thing multiple times to unlock the stuff.

Other than that, it's good stuff.

Yea, i also rate 3.0 very high.
.
A new ship, along with a new challenge for it: fly wing assassination missions solo in the Chieftain. It can be done, but at least for me it's no easy game. For C&P, it's late, it doesn't affect me any more (moved to Möbius a while ago), but it is more logical for the game world than the old system. And it should at least somewhat reduce the problem, that all risks are on the attacked, with no real risk for an attacker.
.
And that's even before mentioning that Engineers finally are in a shape which i consider worth using. Sure it can still be a long grind, but at least you're guaranteed to get something for it. Progress! :)
.

1&3. We knew much of what came, so there weren't that many big surprises, but I've really enjoyed the new planets, as well as the ability to run missions for influence, and the engineering proved better than I feared. I especially love the amazing Alliance Chieftain - which I'd flown in the Beta but is yet more improved. So they exceeded my expectations. In all the game feels more mature, if that makes sense.

2. They dropped the decimal for influence from the system map! :scream: If you don't know what that means, it won't affect you. But it's a disaster for BGS players. So, obviously, 3.0 would have been better for me if they hadn't messed with that.

1. Fell short, to be honest. This was supposed to be a big update, but it still feels minor.

2. More gameplay improvements. Better mission balancing and scaling. A less complicated C&P system. More voice-overs.

3. COVAS, GalNet Audio, Chieftain.

1. It's better than I expected. Fewer bugs and the ones that are there are relatively minor.

2. Fuzzy dice.

3. a. The engineer changes. All in all, a big plus.
b. Additional module storage.
c. Chieftain.

Definitely the best update since 2.1, for me at any rate (contrary to what other people might say, I loved all the changes made in 2.1 to missions, & the AI, even if I thought the Engineers missed a lot of opportunities).

My only true gripe is that I still have the extremely poor trigger rate for follow-on missions that I had in 2.4 :(.

Hello LuxAeterna

Interesting question !

1. Did FDEV go beyond your expectations or did they fall short this time?

Neither : the expansion is more or less as I expected it : return to the core gameplay (good) , mostly pewpew engineer stuff (bad). Overall, it's pretty close from what they announced.

2. What would you have liked to seen released in the Beyond patch? Or how could the release have been better?

Basically, what they promised for Q4. The whole Thargoid storyline is currently trapped in a cage due to the lack of gameplay mechanics other than shooting stuff. Either the whole plot is a stupid war (which is NOT what they said), either they need to WORK on NON-COMBAT mechanics. Fingers crossed for Q4 but yeah, it is a bit late IMHO.

3. What features did you like about the new release?

Almost everything but my favourite is the Galnet audio and seeing a voicepack in the store. I hope they further develop that and work with HCS more in the future (I'm an early adopter of ASTRA).

Overall, I'm quite happy with this "Beyond" beginning and I hope FD will keep up the good work. And trust me this is not something I say that often. :D

It was a great update but I think the mission boards are the worst they've ever been. I'm not basing this off the skimmer nerf. I use the mission boards for mats and the mat rewards are currently garbage Imo unless you choose wing missions.

Definitely best update yet - especially engineer changes and updated planet surfaces.

I would agree, but these impressive improvements have been marred by the highly visible/obvious bugs in the new Guardian Sites as well as continuing issues with Turreted weapons. In what seems to be an ongoing theme within ED, totally unrelated and previously functioning features and systems continually fall victim to changes made in other areas of the game's code base during the creation of a major update.

From an outside observer's perspective and someone relatively well versed in computer programming, these persistent incidents involving the breaking of unrelated features/content points to a very chaotic and messy code base.

Unfortunately, I continue to see evidence of this 3 years out, and that is as troubling as it has always been.

A foundation built on unstable mud and shifting sands if you will.

Fdev fell short on this release for me. This release felt more like an update for Horizons than a brand new release in itself.
The Engineers was basically a re-design, C&P has been needing work since the game launched, the planet colors should've been addressed in Horizons and the Thargoid Scouts... (I'll remain silent on this one for the moment). The only thing we really got that was "new" was the Chieftain, some experimental weapons, COVAS and more skins and cosmetics in the store.

2. What would you have liked to seen released in the Beyond patch? Or how could the release have been better?
I would've liked to have seen the Thargoid content finally and fully released. And...... we're..... still..... waiting.......... sigh

3. What features did you like about the new release?
The best feature for me was the expansion of the player journal entries as I like to program EDDI and Voice Attack. This feature should add more things and info I can automate and/or call.

Yes I rate the 3.0 release very high. I am getting some frame drops around stations and planets (compared to 2.4) , but nothing game-breaking ... so far :D

Great update, patched and professionally done. With the difficult and groundbreaking playstation port finished last year, I'd expect ED updates to continue timely with this quality. 10/10

Well the Galaxy Map (CTD) bug is pretty much a show stopper for Explorers.

The new textures for the planets are okay but if you look closely you notice the tile boundaries and, possibly GPU issue, the detail draw distance isn't that far at altitude so a quite noticeable LOD effect kicks in with blurred low res abutting on the tiles being displayed in high detail.

I think its the best patch they've done in ages.

1. Did FDEV go beyond your expectations or did they fall short this time?
The info I heard prior to release made me think it was going to be good so had high expectations, haven't been disappointed

2. What would you have liked to seen released in the Beyond patch? Or how could the release have been better?
I'd say exploration improvements but those are coming in the Q4 patch. Trade changes are ok but I think the UI could be better. Would have liked to see something added for multicrew members to do other than combat.

3. What features did you like about the new release?
Basically most of them. The planet textures had more of an impact on me than expected. Engineer rework was a big improvement. Extra material storage actually changed how I played. Wing missions I've yet to try but they should be a fun aside. I was even pleasantly surprised by Galnet audio and bought the new covas voice too.

Good patch, but has many bugs that were present and reported in beta. Also failed to go far enough in many ways.
