Quality of Life: One Thing

Not true - it's still RNG reliant. In my experience, in my home system and 100ly surrounding, HGEs are still too rare e.g. maximum of one in a system, containing zero G5 mats.

Yes, I've seen players commenting in other threads saying they're finding a dozen HGEs one after the other with a gazillion G5s in each one. But they're in hugely populated systems with massive player activity.

Go 50ly out of the bubble and tell me HGEs are aplenty, with video proof.

Player shouldn't be forced to travel to the centre of the bubble for HGEs. If anything, HGEs should be super rare in highly populated systems because of the high chances that 'someone else' has gotten there first. Like the free Conda at Hutton.

You won’t get anyone telling you that.
High Pop. is a fundamental condition that increases HGE spawns.

That isn’t RNG, that’s just not looking in the right places.

Oh , go troll someone else buddy.

I know how to play the damn game.

I made a suggestion - don't like it, move on, don't start lecturing.

PS: Systems within 100ly of my home system with much higher populations than systems purposefully visited toward the centre of the bubble, have far less HGEs. Don't give me that tripe about pop being fundamental. I also once found 3x HGEs in a 10k pop system with None state - but what tf do I know?

No worries, suit yourself.

According to Deft Beck of NeoGAF (who I assure you is a stellar chap) -

I think it's a flawless definition.

If you had one - just one - quality of life improvement that would boost your enjoyment of Elite in general, what would it be?

Mine would be having different HUD configurations along with the ability to customize their colors and save them in the game, right there in my cockpit. No external files. No more uniform appearance. Select a HUD from a list, mess with the colors until you get them just right, and save it to that specific ship or some external list. The one that got close but didn't make my top choice was updating the Clipper. If can't be classified as a medium ship, give it a damn fighter bay.

Booking passage for distant stations in the galaxy (like Colonia) without having to fly there first. I've done my share of exploration, and done my time in the Black (Sag A* several times, Colonia - several times, Beagle Point, Distant Worlds 2 for several months).

Sometimes I just want to go to a place for a change or to try something out. Happy to wait for the same period of time as a ship transfer for that to happen, and to pay what it's worth. Happier even more to pay a Commander if they'll take me as a passenger!

After my first highly tedious PvP fight with an equally insipid Courier pilot...it would have to be a thruster disabling special effect for my rails! I would show you the vid but my language was more venomous than the combined interchange of Adele, Gordon Ramsey & Frankie Boyle after a three-way RTA!

Remember kids - swearing is not big & it's not clever...but it is rather satisfying!

Oh & also...the subsequent ability to send a Wile E Coyote gif to my aforementioned foe: "Beep-beep now, melonfarmer!" 😁

My one QOL improvement would be persistent NPCs that acknowledge my cmdr's existence in a meaningful way, as in context of past achievements. We currently have reputation with local factions and our name tag on first time cosmic discoveries. But not even the attempted illusion of NPC recognition.

They do react to combat rank and ship size - after they interdict you, they sometimes say something about "oops wrong guy, sorry..." or something.

But yeah, it's minimal, and I agree with you, just saying, there is some minor attempted illusion of NPC recognition.

Just one? Erk.

Well, no can do...but I can name a few 'one things' that are simple?
  • Ship Notes/Journal (Harder to use on console, which I play, but I wish I had this at times)
  • Ship Counters: Odometer, Kill-Count in that Ship, Time Left Until Fuel Depletes
  • HUD Color Slider

There, I kept it to three. I know, that fails the assignment.
I think they are all true 'QoL' features though - they aren't necessarily gameplay, they just improve the enjoyment of the product by the consumer.

I haven't seen that reaction in a long time, and I'm constantly interdicted by Pirate Lords. Which make me wonder if the reaction "oops wrong guy, sorry..." is really what we think it means. I wouldn't be surprised if a novice in a Viper gets the same response sometimes. But I think it would be cool to have some kind of ceremony conducted by the locals when we achieve a significant milestone, Elite rank, official titles, leaving the starter system? Might be the source of my discontent in this area is I see what creative AI coding can produce in games like Skyrim.

I was getting this in Haz Rez when my Anaconda was geared up for fighting in Sacagawea system. They'd scan and then i'd get similar messages "Whoa big fella" and such. Was kind of interesting but only happened a few times. They definitely did turn and leave though even when I had cargo as a test.

Preset ship loadouts would be my thing in the past. When you can buy 3 more ships, one for each purpose, that desire becomes moot.
Currently I'd go with Remote changing/equipping modules.

Bigger / more obvious text on the HUD for GRAVITY and ALTITUDE when planetary landing. Those are very important bits of information which are barely noticeable or get washed out depending on the planet surface colour.
