Quest To Find Life Around A White Dwarf

A ringed WD I haven't found yet and suspect I would only find one in a higher code system, perhaps part of a neutron star/black hole system.

Don't recall seeing one in a neutron star system, but I've seen a handful in black hole systems. I think you're right though, probably at least mass code f if not g/h. Which reminds me of this find nearly a year ago...

The ring around the WD is pretty huge, and if there was less water in the atmosphere I reckon that'd have been a good candidate for a possible ELW... Might pay it another visit soon, don't think it's too far from Colonia and my first visit was before they updated WDs with jet cones...

An ELW as a moon of a ringed white dwarf is in the eddb.io-database: Dryau Scraa AA-A h533

I visited it 3 weeks ago, main star is a black hole and the white dwarf too far away from the ELW, so no nice screenshot.

Good luck for your quest...

After thirty four days, 16,000 lyrs, and 1978 White Dwarf systems visited I have reached the first destination FOIJEOU NF-D D13-56 where Allitnil found his WD/M star twinned ELW.

Stayed to take in the view and while I was there did what all explorers do-scan the untagged to put my "I WOZ ERE" moniker on them :D Also checked on a few other D13-NF-D white dwarfs just in case...... but turned out Allitnil's find was a shining Jewell in a general sea of mediocrity there!

From this point I will travel to the roof of the galaxy and plot economic routes again, filtering WD only towards Colonia and on the way drop in to DUNEE EH-U E3-714,a Black Hole system which has an ELW orbiting a WD. I also want to collect more data on way to determine if unusual finds in WD systems are concentrated more towards sector edges than in the middle.

Fly safe Commanders.
Leif_Erikson out.

Quick update. Although yet to find the unicorn I have come across this high metal world orbiting 40ls away.Looks unremarkable (it is not even a terraforming candidate) but there is a couple of interesting things with this.

1) The surface pressure is only 4.68 atmospheres. A vast improvement on other worlds this close to WDs where the surface pressures are at least three figures.

2) This is the first world I have found which contains Oxygen in it's atmosphere [woah] With it's Nitrogen/Oxygen percentage this could be classed as an Earth Like atmosphere.

If the world was just a little hotter then this could have tipped the scales towards the elusive...........

So i have visited alot of WD, Neutron and Black Hole system's this week, because they are really interesting. Alot of trash but found this water world the other day, pretty good for screenshot's which i like to take.

I expect this will be the best i will find anytime soon.

For some reason I keep misreading the title of this thread as "Quest to End Life" rather than "Quest to Find Life". Partially due to the letters running together a little with the page zoomed slightly. lol :D

LOL! :D

After endless jumps to samey White Dwarf systems I am tempted to just throttle up and facepalm one of these things and then the quest to end life will be near!

Just two weeks before you started this thread, I found my second ELW around a White Dwarf. This time it is heated by a Neutron Star. Screenie will be included in one of my next ELW-list submissions. So I claim the top position with two finds?

Good luck with your quest. It's maybe possible to find one around a lonesome white dwarf. The Stellar Forge does indeed move in mysterious ways from time to time. I found this one a few months ago. (It might also be the widest diameter terraformable I've ever found, too. Pretty low density for a HMC)

This is a first: a Thargoid Like- (I mean Ammonia) World orbiting a White Dwarf.

Next stop: a Human Like World orbiting a White Dwarf!

Two Earth Like finds co-orbiting a White Dwarf!!! Congrats you are top dog on the ELW/WD quest :)

*grinds teeth with frustrated jealousy*

@Leif_Erikson: To make it even worse for you, I did not plan to find them, I just stumbled over them. This also happened to me with the ELW I found orbiting a Herbig.

Arrived at my second waypoint- DUNEE EH-U E3-714. Although it is a Black Hole system the only known (as far as I know) ELW orbiting a White Dwarf.

This turned out to be eventful- around the world was a tourist beacon apparently placed there by the discoverer Evoflash. I have not heard of one of these in the game [woah]

As I was admiring this some pesky NPC came out of nowhere and took pot shots at me!
I did what most explorers with no weapons and a full bag of exploration data would do.......... a brave Sir Robin and got the hell out of there!

Yeah, there is an open thread, aptly located in the general discussions section, where you can submit suggestions for tourist beacon locations. I've gotten two beacons in so far. One high gravity planet and one planetary nebula with a close neighbour system.
Oh and yeah, that adds the extra risk of dealing with (the rare) pirates near those beacons. Which I agree can be a problem as that's something you don't expect to see halfway across the galaxy.

Thanks for the link and hope they are still submitting entries as I've put one on.

Leif, you already know 2 ELW around White Dwarves. But I was too lazy to add a screenie in post #48. But here you are: http://imgur.com/fSqgvlT.jpg

Nice screenie.I'm now at 3,300+White Dwarf jumps on this trip alone (along with the 3,000 approx from previous trip) and yet still to find a binary ELW system so your WD finds are very rare indeed.

*Still gnashing teeth in frustrated jealousy*
