Question about backpack contents for contraband delivery missions.

Is there a way to avoid the mission contraband being automatically placed in your backpack?

Wanted to do some recon but got scanned the second I exited my SRV, so mission over even though I verified the item wasn't in the backpack before getting out.

Did I miss something or is the only option is to remember to remove the auto-loaded contraband (at a safe distance from guards) every time you debark?

If you are delivering contraband to a particular location, the mission automatically knows that is the place that item is going to and it puts it in your pack.

Nope, just be more careful when getting out.

That's what I expected. Probably won't bother with contraband delivery in future then.

Only took the mission because it had a good material reward.

Contraband delivery is fun though. Just have to be careful where you park. Usually using Apex shuttle land you far enough that you have time to look around where guards are at.

He got off way too close to a guard and guard scanned him. Which if you run they set off alarm and begin shooting. Alarm makes the mission fail.

You get plenty of time to drop the item from the time you get the warning about the scan to when it actually completes.
Maybe for you, but not with my fingers. Even in the best case scenario where you're next to your SRV, you have to go to the right panel, then storage, transfer, pick the right group, scroll down and select the mission item, then finalize the transfer.

You don't transfer it to the SRV. You use the quickmenu to open your backpack and drop it on the ground, then pick it up again after the scan.

Maybe don't park your SRV up their privates if you plan on doing some recon? 😄
lol, no. That case was just me testing getting as close as possible to the recipient to minimize exposure to the patrols. A guard come around the corner literally just as I got out of the SRV and within 2 seconds there was trouble.
Tried it again since then at a high security military settlement and it worked out fine.

It is a few less key presses, but I still don't think I would have had time to navigate to the mission item nearly 30 places down in the data list.
I'll practice that sequence though.

Use the turret to check where the guards are before exiting and if possible block the guards route to where you exit the SRV.

You don't have to do that either. The items you are carrying are always at the top of the list above all the others.

When you depart your ship or SRV get into the onfoot menu for manage backpack contents, or whatever it says, and transfer the contraband out of your backpack. Go find the person, use a terminal if you need to, so you know where he is and where the guards are you need to stay away from. Go back and get the contraband then go deliver it avoid guards as necessary. Finding the person first may add more time, but makes it less stressful. Just depends on how you want to play the game.

You can scan the location directly from the SRV.
