Question about combat logging. Would love some feedback.

There ya go: over 1.6m/t. That's 25 million per run in my non-optimized DBS. Double the number you considered 'total , period'. Free tip: next time you doubt someone you may want to pipe down a bit, it kinda makes you look like a clown. :)

What? That's one mission. One mission doesn't equal 25 million. For that to happen, the RNG mission gods would have to smile upon you at least 15 times. How many bulletin board refreshes and hours did that take? Then you have to somehow deliver all those missions without getting scanned and chain interdicted on the way back. I stand by my original statement. .

You know, I've started back in a sidewinder myself when I played this on PC and lost my progress. I'm wishing I hadn't asked about the whole thing because the criticism and scrutiny to the point where I'm basically being told I shouldn't play video games has gone beyond what I requested. How many people are exploiting the sidewinder bounty trick amongst other things? I haven't. I've still got bounties on my head from missions I wish I hadn't bothered with.

Grinding in a game isn't fun. It's what we do to make progress. We accept that. But the concept of a cheap death caused by a game that interdicts me demanding cargo I don't even hold was enough to make me reset one time to avoid going back to square one after being rammed to near death. Over and out.

Hi Miko.
I fully understand your point, but agree with most of the others, that without insurance then you have asked for it. I NEVER exit any port without enough cash credits :)

I will propably start a sh*tstorm on my account now, but I have combat logged a few times and although I am not proud of it, I will do it again if needed!
But it needs to be told why I do it:

Been playing ED for about 1 year now, starting with trading, rares run and the like. Never been involved in PvP but always played in open. The times I have been interdicted by players could be counted on one hand, and I had never been killed by a pirate if I dumped some cargo for them - that's fair and square.
But some months ago I started doing the CG's, which in my opinion is some of the best parts of the game. I participated in the Hutton Mug quest and had great fun, but this is where the sad parts start.
When you're doing CG's, you are almost certain to get interdicted by griefers, often in a wing - they don't ask any questions at all, they just blow you away in say 10-15 seconds. You have 0% chance of surviving such attacks and you can't even talk/write to these little underaged pimplefaced dweebs. I don't mind losing a fair fight and I have adequate CR so I can pay the insurance, but this - this is NOT funny at all. THAT's why I combat log when I get attacked/assaulted by these people - then I have the satisfaction that THEY didn't get their easy kill.
This is the reason for me only playing in solo now, and that is a big shame imho
I would love to play open again, but I can't be bothered with this kind of people
I wouldn't mind some sort of "punishment" from ED if only the same would happen to the griefers, but I suppose that is too much to hope for?

I am a lifetime-pass user, I play this game for fun (and have been doing it since the BBC-B with cassette in the early 80's). I play as I like and I have _never_ attacked any live players, why should I tolerate what these guys do?
OK, now you can flame me all you like :)

Hello there community.

I have been playing this game for sometime on both the PC and more recently the Xbox One. I have barely ever played this game on Open Play and I will express my main reasons why.

I have spent a large amount of hours slowly working my way up in this game to the point where I now fly a Python that is moderately well kitted out. This took a lot of bounty hunting, mining, trading etc. I have suffered a few set backs during this time where I have been destroyed but thankfully could afford the insurance.

More recently I was mining and suffered from numerous disconnects due to the transaction server. Upon reloading the game I was randomly attacked by ships that spawned and had flown into me a great speed. My ship exploded and I suffered a huge loss. I started back at starport with less than sufficient credits to cover my insurance headed back out to mine all over again after losing my cargo and bounties accumulated etc.

I was interdicted by an Anaconda wing sometime later and yet again I was rammed by the ship causing terrible damage. Panicking I jammed my finger into the power button immediately disconnecting my game.

So, the main question. Should I feel ashamed to do this when this unforgiving game would have seen me start out with a Sidewinder and grind days on end just to get back to where I was? I appreciate the risk and gravity of loss, but I cannot help but wonder what it must be like for players in Open Play who are set upon by wings of bullies. Every game has them after all. But why should someone have to start all over again when there are so many things to contend with, such as bad luck, lag, griefers, or legitimate loss of connection which this game suffers from frequently even in solo mode.

Anyway, I think if this game is to penalise combat logging then it must compromise and offer a better insurance policy for those who have put a lot of hours behind their game, because to implement a delay timer would potentially cause a lot of upset through legit disconnects where someone was disconnected prior to docking or navigating an asteroid field at speed. Just food for thought.

Anyway, any thoughts? Thanks.

I've been in the position of not being able to afford insurance following a rebuy and I've done two things:

a) I've risked it in full knowledge I could lose everything. Had I done so, I would have accepted that as a consequence of my actions. I was fortunate enough not to.
b) Once I got into a Python, I found I could reclaim enough money by selling internal modules to buy a second, smaller ship. I then used this to bounty hunt as I was easily able to afford three or four insurance payouts. I used the money from bounty hunting to respec my Python. I now have two ships.

What you did was, apparently, try to fight an interdiction whilst without insurance cover. In your situation I would have high waked out immediately. With respect, your situation wasn't caused by a bad in-game insurance policy, it was caused by your own actions.

Yes, the game is unforgiving. As is the universe it's set in. That's part of the challenge of it.

That is total . Period. I've tried stacking missions in a bigger ship than a DBS. Most I've been able to stack is 9mil. Then completing the missions is whole other issue. Twice as many jumps with full cargo and endless interdictions. Takes at least two hours and I timed it. This nonsense being spread around that credits are growing on trees and you can make tens of millions per hour is hogwash.

Not at all. I fly the ASP and regularly stack missions valued over 30mil sometimes over 40mil. Most long range missions are in the same area so it is one long journey and then lots of smaller ones. I don't accept missions worth less than 4mil each and these are generally available if your trade rank is Tycoon. Still managed this at the lower rank but fewer 4 to 5 mil missions.

Interdictions are not endless under the right circumstances. On a single journey you will generally get one police interdiction and one pirate interdiction. If you submit and run you will likely get them after you again a jump or two later. If you win then you are pretty much safe until after you have left the next station then it starts again.

A rated FSD, A rated Thrusters A5 Fuel Scoop. A3 shields. No weapons, just heatsinks. 395 boost speed. Rarely get scanned. When I do it is because I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings.

Given that the discussion was about combat logging/cheating, the real question here is: does he get 25 1million credit missions by patiently waiting and refreshing the BB or by mode switching? :D

Try Mobius then. Not as populated as open, but you won't get attacked by another commander.

if you cant afford to fly the ship. don't buy it unless you are willing to restart in a sidewinder if all goes wrong.

no idea how you people would have coped with the games we had back in the 80's

Back in the '80s I would have reloaded my last good save. ;)

So you are saying that you understand fully the insurance system, choose to fly without it and then complain that death with no insurance is harsh? If you don't want to loose all progress then don't fly without insurance!
.
How you play is your choice and is up to you, apart from disconnecting to avoid death as this has been stated as unacceptable by FD. Whether they also apply this to Solo I don't know. There are all sorts of techniques out there to get around some bits of the game mechanics that are not described as exploits by FD, your choice whether you use them or not.
.
If you are grinding then you are probably focussed too much on big ships and "progress". ED is a sandbox game, you make your own way and your own choices. Grinding is a choice you take to make to meet a goal you have set yourself. Yes I grind now and again and can be dull but it is my choice so I have no complaints about it. I also spend a lot of time bumming around making zero credits per hour.
