Question about K-class orange "super" giants

Alright, after almost 14 hours of burning fuel, I was about ready to jump the 144.46Ly to [Pheia Aeg WX-U d2-0]. Fuel-wise, it looked a bit grim though:

Soon™

Then it dawned on me... My FSD was still damaged from all those Neutron boosts... I wasn't sure, but maybe a FSD in a less-than-optimal condition would have less range or consume more fuel per Ly? It was at 90%, so I dropped out of frameshift space and repaired the FSD. Indeed, that did give me additional range. I wonder how I've even survived a galactic circumnavigation with such information deficits...

Anyhow, time to bid that little big star farewell. I'd been here longer that what I'd planned for anyway:

Bye bye, HD 40064!

And here.. we.. go!

That's one hell of a jump, farthest I've ever done without a Neutron boost

The target system was bland. I found the class DA white dwarf and the class T brown dwarf as expected, but there were no planets whatsoever:

White "murderhobo" dwarf, including artifacts

Well, I didn't exactly have time for that anyway! In my panic, I immediately infused my FSD with another +100% injection, Arsenic be damned. Now the question was... With what little was left in terms of juice, could I reach any one of the two life-saving stars I'd picked for my escape route? I tried the class A blue-white one first, as it appeared to be a bit closer to my location on the galaxy map. That's [Pheia Aeg XX-U d2-0].

Hit that hyperspace switch, aaand...

Heeeh... eheeehehehheheHEHEHEHEELL YEAH!!

Now that was one intense adrenaline rush, I tell you!! I can barely believe it... I would've never believed it possible, but I actually managed to drag my a*se out of there..

This feels sooo good!

Well.. almost. I still needed to get farther down, but if I could locate a Neutron star in range, I'd be set. And having pushed downwards pretty aggressively already, there was indeed one I could easily reach. Maybe even two or three, if I were to go all-out. I picked [Pheia Aeg VM-W d1-0].

For this though, a +25% injection was enough, even if only barely:

Hellooo, Mr. Neutron star! I am very∗ happy to see you!

Excellent! From there, one more Neutron in [Myeadai ZE-X d2-0], and then the final jump to safety for over more than 260 light years!

Go, go, gone!

Maan, I can finally lean back and rest. And I need it, too, flying on Aspirin here and all. ;)

Ah right, before I forget it, thank you for your assistance, Rudi Raumkraut, it really helped! Your posts also gave me (careful) optimism and made me pay a little bit more attention while attempting this. Sure was close though...

So like her namesake, "Yumeko" made a pretty high bid on that gamble, and ended up walking away being the winner! :) Phew...

I don't think so?! Or at least I couldn't explain this if it weren't the case. I couldn't jump before, got the 5 tons message from the FSD. Dropped back into normal space, repaired the FSD, retried and it worked. As you can see, the distance to the star was 144.46Ly, and when I made the jump, the right panel still showed an effective range of 144.31Ly. And yet I could make the jump?!

It can't be the AFMU, as the unit and its ammo weigh nothing, right? I don't think I would've lost so much fuel in just a few seconds... From .31 to .46 should take quite a few minutes.

Edit: Or is there a delay in what the right panel shows? I switched it off & on all the time to refresh it... and I could watch the hundredths count up veeery slowly.

Changing instance by dropping out could have forced it to recalculate. I know I've flown a few routes across the bubble without a scoop where it's said I'd be a single jump short, and when I'm halfway there I check the map again and lo and behold it says I can finish the trip.

Hmm, I see.. Alright then, let's assume I was wrong. I'll correct the post above!

Edit: Ah, here's a bonus picture, that's a shot of one of the few terrestrial worlds in the HD 40064 system that wasn't a metal-rich planet, but a rocky one:

I thought I'd find some bigger mountains given the wealth of tiny, low-g worlds in that system, but no.. Those were the largest I could find, unless I've overlooked something. Well, I didn't really inspect every world in great detail, so who knows.

Yep, the UI panels sometimes have delays in updating. It was probably the instance change forcing an update, as suggested above.
