Question about Phantom.

Hi there Commanders. I’m sure there are many people who made this choice before me, so I’d like to hear your opinion. I am currently on my way back home from the trip to the Ishum's Reach with my good old ASP. I can’t say that there’s anything wrong with this ship at all (as a matter of fact this is wonderful exploration ship) but I feel like on my next expedition I want to fly something different and I would like to stay with medium size ship. I was thinking about Phantom. I know that it won’t have the same jump range as an ASP but few LY difference is not critical for me, besides I’d like to use it for some travel and mats gathering in the bubble as well. I’m curious how would it be to live with it on the long run? Is it any good as an alternative to the ASP? Appreciate any info about this ship.

Phantom is the top jump range medium ship. No question. I just recently finished configuring a phantom for long range travel while still making serious trouble for anybody who tries to interdict me. And it still goes about 60LY with the defenses.

Besides that it's just about the coolest looking ship in the galaxy. If I could have my Krait II but with the engines of the phantom I would.

Yeah! Mine is 67.1 fully fueled and it's not even maxed out on all the engineering. Phantoms are very good exploration ships. The only thing I don't like is the cockpit is "only" 90% as good as the Asp X for visibility. (Personal opinion of course.) This boat is so cool, I parked my expensive Exploration 'Conda, lost a few ly range too, to pilot a Phantom 130,000 light years back when Distant Worlds II was taking place.

Here is a nice build for you:
It can carry 32 Tonnes of cargo as well with a laden range of nearly 62LY. In the bubble i swap out the fuel scoop for a class 6 cargo as well as the class 5 cargo for running missions for a total of 96 tonnes. Sometimes will also run a class 6 cargo and class 5 fuel scoop for going to things like guardian sites or Hipp 36601 for raw mats.

I never liked the Conda as exploration ship, half your screen is full of Anaconda, it steers like a tectonic plate in supercruise and try finding a landable spot on a mountainous planet.
Took one out into Hawkins Gap, boy was I glad when I came back and hop back into my AspX.

And then the Phantom came and made everything that much nicer.

A beluga can jump 50, have 4 srvs and fighters, 128ton fuel tank, all the other ecploration doodads, has a better view, can land better than most big ships, and steers well.

Also its pettier than the phantom

50 is just too short for my needs. i remember flying 15k LY to go back to the bubble and change asp to dbx because i was a couple LY short to access an area of the.... "south" rim ? (before they changed the orientation of the galaxy, like 2 years ago, before guardian booster)
found an elw out there. was totally worth it.
Fair enough, the beluga is better for long trips anyway.
Alas but when all is said and done, it is still a Beluga, the 34th Century's equivalent of a 1990's Volvo ;)
Very reliable, tough to break cars that are fairly easy to fix ? Id agree with that, though the beluga looks much nicer ;)

I love my Phantom, moved on it after AspX when it was released - the view from cockpit I felt was not so gorgeous as in Asp, but now I don't want anything another. My "Viator" is my true home for a year or even more, and once I'll done with ranks, I'll be back to my wanderer.

I've done my last 40Kly trip in a Chief that can jump 53ly. Not a dedicated explorer ship, just like the Beluga, but all of this only personal preferences. I've did that trip just because I love my Chief, but I wouldn't pick it for longer trip. For that IMHO the Phantom is über alles.

Definitely try the Phantom for exploration, I took mine to Beagle Point with Distant Worlds 2 and was very happy with its performance.

I have my Phantom engineered to 68.5 ly fully fueled and it has enough internals for a 6A fuel scoop, 5B AFM, Guardian FSD Booster and a Planetary Vehicle Hangar.

Since swapping to Phantom, I rarely use my Anaconda for exploration now. The Phantom is faster, handles much better in Supercruise and is easier to find landing spots in uneven terrain - also less problems landing on High G planets.

Give it a try, I am sure that you will enjoy the change.

On my second lap around the galaxy in my phantom, 65ly but not fully engineered and optimised so could easily do 70ly.
