Question about release date

yeah I know the kickstarter says March 2014 but we all know release dates can slip, the reason for this thread is that I have reason to believe that the launch of the game may be delayed a further 6 months.

the reason for this is because September 2014 will mark the 30th anniversary of the original game and that for marketing reasons the game will be officially launched to commemorate the 30 years of ELITE.

do you think this sounds plausible?

Well i hope your wrong but in a nice way! ;) but having pointed out the 30th anniversary date who knows?

but i would have thought it would not have escaped DB and others minds about the anniversary in September 2014 before deciding otherwise and making it march 2014.

Of course any natural slippages may make it happen anyway.

There is a horrid logic to what you're saying, Mobius. I hope you're wrong about this though. I hope the game could be launched and we celebrate in the game! :)

We should be fixed before the end of the year? Because in this case, I think they would announce the postponement at least three months before the release date of origin. Even though the game is released as planned in March 2014, there will still be the 30th anniversary in September. With an advertising campaign, promotional offers, a historical (for the purposes of marketing) for the first six months of activity of the game.

I think media wise the game will have a bigger impact when the media announce to the public that Elite has been delayed 6 months. buy allowing the media to announce this it will generate further interest and general Buzz for the game.

plus releasing the game for September would financially be a winner, as September onwards is the biggest money spinner time of the year, also Easter as well but sept marks the 30th anniversary date.

Personally, six months more, give me more time to build my new computer. So for me no problem.

I believe FD has captured the nostalgia angle via the Kickstarter project already; reference to 30 year history at launch might not have much more punch, and might even detract from the game's image, in the eyes of younger potential players

If the game is to be delayed, it will most likely be due to needing more development time, but since they have named their date, and they have flexibility what is included in release version, I expect to see the game in March 2014 or thereabouts

well I want a march 2014 release date as much as anyone else, but I would think selling a game to mark the 30th anniversary says to those who have never heard of elite before that this game must be worth looking at if its been going as long as it has been instead if saying to the uninformed that elite is some new space trading game,

Alternatively , they may look at the 20 year gap and be reminded of the abysmal Duke Nukem Forever. I have my doubts about whether younger players are going to be attracted just by reminding them that this game has it's origins before they were born.

Frontier know the significance of the date and I'm pretty sure that if they had intended the link the launch to the anniversary they would have chosen a closer launch date. It could be that we get the first expansions for the 30th anniversary

Hard to say....To deliberately delay the game 6 months for the anniversary may not go down so well ?

To delay the game because of real issues is another thing ..

I hear this so much....Duke Nukem forever took about 6 months to make in the end....Not 20 years..
All this Hype over the years was 3D realms changing the engines etc over that period.....

when the game was released it just used an up to date engine and was finished off by Gearbox Software....But people thought it would be the best game since sliced bread after all that time.....

The truth is....you got an up to date FPS game ( that was pretty good )
Was everyone really expecting higher tech than what's currently available

though it may not go down so well with those who have backed it, that remains irrelevant as we have already given our money to FD, but that's the thing, they can tell us that the game is not ready for release and I'm sure the community will say
" not a problem I want Elite to be the best game ever and if it takes another 6 months then so be it".

we wont know until FD begin their marketing campaign, I would think that if FD doesn't start their marketing campaign between November 2013 and January 2014 then we could be looking at a September launch.
