Ship Builds & Load Outs Question about Shield Boosters Multipliers

This may have already come up and has been answered, and if so, for that I apologize for my redundancy. However, I wanted to know how the numbers from multiple Shield Boosters compound as far as the MJ?

If I for example have B5 Shields on a Vulture with 370MJ (number may be off), and I add two A Shield Boosters increasing Shields by x1.200, does that mean that it is 370 x2.4 (with x2 A Shield Boosters) or 1.4, only doubling by the modifier after the Decimal? Essentially, does the modifier compound or does each Shield booster apply separately so that shields are not doubled by the first number before the decimal? By equation, do I get:

1. 370 times 2.4 to equal 888 shields?

or

2. 370 times 1.4 to equal 518?

If the former is the application, then I might be better off reducing my Vulture shields to a 5D and going with two A Shield Boosters, rather than my B5 and B sheild booster.

Thanks guys!

This post I made in another thread partially touches on your question but will provide you with some basis along with a link to coriolis.io which will show you the MJ output of Shield Generator type combined with Shield Booster Type. The calculations will be made for you. My ship is a Vulture.

I tested out configs for Shield Generators alone and combined with Shield Boosters. Lower Class Shields with appropriate boosters consumed LESS power and provided MORE MJ of shield strength.

EX. Class A SG draws 3.64 MW and provides 391.96 MJ of Shield

Class C SG draws 2.60 MW and provides 343.96 MJ of Shield

BUT, if you add a Class B Shield Booster that draws 1.00MW to a Class C SG you have a power draw of 3.60MW with a Shield total of 398.99MJ

You draw .04 MW less BUT get 7.03 MJ MORE in Shield Strength than a Class A SG alone.

I fiddled around with many variants using Coriolis.io

I ended up using a CLASS B SG with a 0D and a 0E Booster to put me at exactly 100% fully deployed using my priorities and rotated modules turned off. My Shields are 412.12 MJ

I tried using a CLASS A SG and could not even come close to this nor mitigate the power use my config needed with the A Generator. For my purposes an A Generator was overpowered and underrated compared to what I can have with my SB and SG combo.

Note: Shield regen time is longer with boosters, however I believe you can disable boosters to regen shields quicker and then turn them on after so I have seen mentioned? Also, if you need your utility mounts for other things this may not be a benefit.

515.14 MJ actually if I am not mistaken. I do not think they are doubled. I have done pretty extensive tests on the shield boosters but it still does not make too much sense in most cases. In a conda with A7 shields I can put eight A class shield boosters on it and I get 1000+MJ of shields. Which is double the shield strength. On my clipper if I put four A class shield boosters with an A7 I get around a c-b7 shield gen since it is nerfed in the clipper.

Yep, B5 with 2 0A SBs = 515.14 per coriolis.io

0A Booster add 20% (1.2 x) [when you multiply a number by 1.2 your result is the original figure + 20%]

2 0A Boosters add 40% (1.4 x) [same as above, but 40%] - Multi SB % are additive

515.14 MJ Shields is 140% of the default 367.96 provided by 5B SG

I appreciate the replies, so it does multiply mostly in the manner in which I expected... just a little more intricate in the calculations to reach the multiplier result.

That is great.. to be honest, I wasn't sure, but they clearly compound in a simple calculation using the original value to multiply the shields by the booster multiplier and do apply the percentage increase to the compound of the first booster to shield when calculating the second booster to shield, which I forgot to also ask but that was answered regardless. However, if it did apply the calculation in that manner, boy would it net some incredible shields. (Ex. Would be nice if 1.2 at 20% on base shields for the first calculation, then take the equation of that multiplier and apply another 20% using the base of the shields and multiplier for the second A boosters, rather than a straight 40%, rudimentarily).

So it is clear that I should probably drop my shields or shield booster so acquire 2 sets of boosters towards the shields since they clearly increase the base with each shield. Nice.

Thank you very much guys, Rep all around :)

After all, we can all use some good rep :)
