Hi, while I originally purchased the game from Steam, I haven't used Steam to launch the game since Horizons arrived.

I was wondering, if I uninstall the game from Steam, will it also remove the game that I'm playing that has nothing to do with Steam?

TIA, I'll check back on this thread tomorrow.

If you haven't moved/copied the files out of the steam library directory then yeah. Uninstalling it from steam will delete the Elite directory and uninstall the game entirely from your computer.

Just because you're not using Steam to launch the game doesn't mean that manually launching it with a shortcut automatically creates an entirely new directory complete with all relevant data files. You're just accessing the executable files in the steam directory the old fashioned way WITHOUT the steam interface.

If you installed it from Steam but also have the regular ED launcher, you have two full and non connected copies of the game using the same account. You should be able to delete the Steam copy no problem.

[wacky] If you purchased the game on Steam then I am pretty sure you are using Steam to launch the game even if you are not aware of it. When I installed the latest patch (er, update) I installed it first from the Elite Dangerous Launcher and was prompted to download a new Launcher. Then, when I attempted to launch the game from the new Launcher it prompted me to update the game, which I did. After updating, when I attempted to start the game from the "new" Launcher icon I was prompted again to update the game. After re-starting the PC and trying this a couple more times I opened Steam and updated again via Steam. This only took a couple of minutes, apparently because the files had already been downloaded. I again tried to launch the game from the "new" Launcher icon and was again prompted to update the game but, then I opened Steam and launched the game via Steam and the game fired right up so I removed the shortcut to the "new" launcher and replaced it with the shortcut to the Steam ED Launcher. All good now.

If you click the (Steam) ED Launcher, either in the START menu or via a desktop or task-bar shortcut the "Launching Steam" message does not always display, especially if Steam is configured to start automatically when Windows starts. If the Steam icon is being displayed in your System Tray then Steam is launching ED and the "Launching Steam" message is not being displayed because Steam started when Windows started.

If its still in the steamapps folder yep definitely will. If you have installed a completely different thing from frontierstore than that's not the steam install. The bits in the middle (preferences and launcher settings etc) are independent of that anyway (except for the launcher but nevermind).

Its okay for steam to just be the key dispenser for elite.

Also just in case, you can pay for cosmetics from your steam wallet in usd via steam.elitedangerous.com! One steam wallet also works for more than one frontier account, but you have to log in to steam twice when doing it. It also works for accounts that were purchased from steam and from frontier :) Glad frontier are easy like that on how they'll take your money.

I first purchased the game from steam too, then i downloaded the installer directly from frontier and installed the game. I ended up having 2 different installation of the game. I then proceeded to uninstall the steam version and the non steam version (as expected) remained installed.

If I do indeed have two versions on my computer, I'm guessing they're located in different places on my drive?

Can someone tell me where I can find both versions so I can check?

Probably easiest to do a search for "EDLaunch.exe" and see where it turns up (there should be one for each installation).

And also yeah, what happened to the pony?!?

Thank you. I will look shortly.
