Question for deep space explorers - are the lights on? :)

So random curiosity question for the intrepid explorers who have gone really, really deep exploration - which for me means outside the populated Powers systems, our little bubble of civilization.

I noticed passing a terran agriculture planet today that the night side had all sorts of little lights on - which made me think oh wow, that is pretty cool - kinda like looking down at Earth from a night shot of our major cities lighting up the landscape.

So question - has any explorers seen terran class planets way out there in the galaxy?

And if so - when you pass at night or the dark side - are there any lights on or did Frontier code that very consistently and zero lights on those presumably non-populated terran worlds?

No lights anywhere outside civilisation, I once had a unidentified signal source which turned out to be a single cargo canister appear about 500 ly out, but apart from that, nothing

I would have thought the game wasn't perma static - as in, player dropped effects can't linger forever or there'd be too much data to store for persistency.

Where do you think that canister came from? Unless maybe at 500 LY, a passing explorer had just dropped it very recently.

Same here, no lights on the dark side of any Earth-like planets I've come across.
I usually make a complete orbit of an ELW for the sunset and sunrise and to check that there are no lights.

If I'd found one with lights, I'd have run home screaming it out! :)

None found so far. It is not entirely unforeseeable that it some distant pre-space faring civilisation may exist - hence I do look at the dark side of any Earth likes I discover.

You need to be more open minded in your search for ET life.

I would broaden the question to :
Have any explorer found light in other kinds of planets. Do not limit yourself to earth like planets.

I've read and seen Starship Troopers. I know what happens when explorers go visit non-terran planets.

No sir...only looking for lights on club med planets, yup.

Canister would just be a random spawn. I've seen ships & signal sources beyond 500LY of inhabited space.

@OP - No lights on any of my discovered ELW's. Would be total frustration seeing lights on a ELW 40,000LY's from home & no way to fly down to investigate..

And what if we find an alien specie that does not require light to see?

No, I check Ammonia Worlds as well.
Partly to check there are no lights, but mainly for the blue sunset and sunrise.

I scan metals, ammonia, water and close gas giants. Some of the gas giants have life....but no lights. I usually check the dark side because I nearly always overshoot my target and end up on the dark side anyway.

Funny thought : what would happen to a civilization of methane breathing llifeforms if they discovered fire... ?

"Explorers reported a fire that lasted for years on a planet on the far corner of the galaxy..."

I often think this in my journeys. The thing is if it 100% methane you couldnt get a fire anyway as you need a smidgeon of oxygen.

Or they could be unfortunate enough to be sitting on a huge pile of iron oxide. They where on the verge of the iron age too... so sad.
