Question for fans: do you use animals that look ugly?

And by ugly I mean animals that look bad in the game or are just unpleasant to look at when they move. As a player I love spending my time watching the animals go around and enjoy their behavior, and I'm sure a lot of people do this as well. Unfortunately, there are many animals I have only used once or twice and then never used them again because I just don't like watching them, either because they look weird or because their animations are bad, or both in some cases, such as the poor okapi. Basically I end up using mostly DLC animals, which are almost all flawlessly done (with a few exceptions ahem ahem Malayan tapir) and I think it is sad that so many vanilla animals, being as popular as they are, have become basically useless because their quality difference is abysmal compared to the DLC animals. Like for example the bongo, I love bongos, they are my favorite antelope, and I don't use them because they look... well, you know how they look. Same with the Indian elephants. Same with the camels. It's just a pity that the base game has so many animals I like, but that I can't get myself to use because of their look...
Does this happen to you? For what animals? I would really like to know your opinion on the matter. Thanks!

Most of people simply dont care about perfect accuracy or either dont know if something is wrong. You will never get good answer here.

“Most”? Is this the result of careful scientific research focussed on a representative group of Planet Zoo players?

For me the number one culprit is of course the Malayan tapir.

But I don’t like the look of the camels or lions and never use them. I dislike the grizzly and Himalayan brown bears so would quite like a European brown bear.

I’m not a huge fan of the snow leopard and recently went off the jaguar which doesn’t compare well with the cougar, lynx and clouded leopard.

I love okapi in real life but there is something just a bit off about them in Planet Zoo so I never use them.

I will never breed white rhino because of the miniature babies.

Most new DLC animals are excellent and also allow us to make more varied zoos and I now tend to avoid large ‘ABC’ animals from the base game and focus on smaller species.

The few that I consider not best, I still use, because while I think they could use improvements, it is not as drastic for me to not use them.

The species I think could use improvements are Timber Wolf, Spotted Hyena, Malayan Tapir and size wise Bactrian Camel and Galapagos Tortoise. Anything else is really fine for me, I never even minded the cartoony Lion that much.

Sometimes--it depends on how much their appearance bothers me and how much I like the animal in general. I can't stand the cartoony lion but I can accept the not-quite-accurate jaguar. I do find myself including a disproportionately high number of DLC animals in all cases, and those are (almost, see Malayan tapir) always the ones that look better.

I mostly enjoy building in the game, so the apperance or the animation isn't too important to me and never throws me off or stops me from building something I'm inspired to build for a certain animal 😌

That being said, I still think the male lions deserves an update :D

I love watching my animals in game, using the habitats I built the way that I envisioned. This is a zoo game and for me, the animals make or break a zoo simulator. That said, there are some that just drive me nuts to watch, yeah. The climbing can be really immersion breaking when they do some truly insane stuff, and some animals feel very animatronic since they ignore each other and their offspring so often. Chimps aren't social enough for me, neither are lemurs, to name a few. I'd love to see the rate of social interaction animations massively increased in these animals. I'd also like to see koalas and orangs, for example, spend a LOT more time in trees than they do. I can handle it with orangs, but I feel like my koalas are sick, just sitting on the ground like that.

I still have as many species in my zoo as possible, and I still include those species that just don't behave like they should, but I spend more time watching animals that act like real animals. The ostriches are one of my favourites because the babies chase their dad around just like in the real world.

If we're talking about the models being... a little too "interpretive", I use alternatives created by some clever people ;). My wolves, snow leopards, lions and tigers in particular are much improved and beautiful now.

No I don't. It's why I never use lions, even though they are a staple of zoos. It's too bad, really. I want to use them, but I just can't look at them. So I don't use them.

Got to say that I am surprised how many people do not use animals that do not look accurate enough. I guess I come from times where back in the days few yellow and brown pixels were a lion and as a kid, I was excited to have “Lion” in game, we had to use alot of imagination, haha.

I started to avoid the lion. Then again, I haven't been working on zoos were it would fit in for quite a while now, so that might also be a reason. Same goes for the Jaguar. I will use mods for the "bad ones" eventually for sure.
