Question for the VR players...

Quick question for the VR players, how many others have either significantly reduced the amount they play, or totally stopped playing Elite since the VR bombshell dropped?

PS: Pancake trolls comments are as always welcome as their contributions will keep the debate lively and "bump" this thread to the top of the forum and keep my twinkly orange blue flashy VR nag screen avatar in peoples line of sight.

I have, a bit - probably like 30% reduction. As things stand right now, it's my intention to just wind it down until ED:O drops, when I'll probably just leave it behind.
Picking up other VR games and diversifying is kinda fun. I love flying in ED tho, so I'll hang on in until I get the eviction notice.

Frankly I stopped a good while before I heard about it, after I made enough credits from trading carrier fuel to finally buy the Anaconda I used to want all those years ago.
But it's certainly not making me want to get back into playing.

Then again, in the recent interview they said they "will tackle" VR in Odyssey, so maybe it's not the end, but really I need to hear a when and not just a will or will not.

As a hardcore BGS player, who often jokes about his 21st century [real world] career getting in the road of his 34th century imperial naval career, the VR bombshell felt like my redundancy notice.I'm, sorry, but I'm not going to "play" a game where it feels like I'm "working my notice", so other than a quick log in to make sure carriers update hadn't obliterated my save I've not been in game, and I haven't actually powered any thrusters since the VR bombshell :-(

It's a shame, as I had been looking forward to hitting the Christmas countdown special edition paintjobs like a drunken battering ram as part of my festivities, but until VR is confirmed - "computer says no".

That's fair, dude. I just ignore 99% of the game anyway - it's a pure flight sim for me. Thankfully I hear there's something better on that VR Horizon coming soon ;)

It's interesting that you seen "we'll tackle" where I seen more significance in the preceding comment of "Or if we decide that we think we can get a good way of doing it." as meaning VR? maybe... If... Then "We'll tackle it".

One question from the community is the status of VR for Odyssey. When will that be available?

Luke Betterton:
Elite is obviously a very nice VR game. You sit in the cockpit, and you're in front of the stars. It lends itself perfectly to VR. I'm really glad that we did add VR support because it's pretty awesome, it is quite an experience. Being able to run around on foot, though, is very much a different experience. We're still looking at the way that we would tackle that if we need to. Or if we decide that we think we can get a good way of doing it. And sure, like, that's something that we'll tackle, but for the moment, we have to focus on the actual main experience and getting that working the way that we really want it to feel. So on day one, there won't be any VR support. But we're not saying never, it's just we need to focus our efforts elsewhere right now.

I'll admit to being cynical, and eager to be proven wrong in this case.

Hmm...

Don't know what you're thinking of?

As a VR only player, my activity level hasn't gone down as a result of the bombshell, but has because real life gets in the way.
I remain hopeful that they will add VR support, but if they don't, I'll probably keep playing what I currently do anyway. I'd probably just not bother getting Odyssey.

I've got a Rift S, I play ED about as much as I did before. Why? Because as great as it looks in VR, I find much harder to play, presumably due to the hours spent playing pancake before I got VR. I just can't adjust. It's not VR, other things I can play fine, like HL:Alyx. Things I've only played in VR are fine, I'm still working on transitioning most of the pancake games.

I'm presently a VR only player. I love ED. I have absolutely no complaints with ED, the Dev team, Frontier Store Support, the ED community, everything is fantastic, everyone is fantastic. I'm looking forward to playing Odyssey in VR, one day. I won't get to do so at launch and that's ok, Odyssey in VR is just another enjoyable ED related experience to look forward to. Till then, I'll play Odyssey in pancake. o7 MJ

I am disappointed there will be no "official" VR support at launch. However, it has not changed how much I play. If/when they get around to including VR in Odyssey I will buy it. Until then, prolly not going to buy. Unless, my suspicions end up being true that there will be decently functional VR work a rounds for non legs play within days if not hours of the first beta.

In the end, I don't think there will be much if any interruption in pilot seat VR in the game.

I continue playing on screen and vr and will do the same with odyssey... I really don't care for vr not being at launch...
