Question on AFK play

Have to admit, using turrets and afk to rank to combat Elite is a bit off, though I'm not against the build and have considered making one myself. However, realizing that gives me pause for thought on it though, I'm currenlty at Master IIRC and would prefer to get to Elite organically, shall we say. The solution to it would be if kills that are 100% from turrets don't count towards your combat rank, though I don't know whether damage is tracked to that degree of detail so I won't say that's an easy fix to implement.
It doesn't work. You'd have to kill about 100,000 or more pirates to get to Elite because the ranks of the pirates in the low RES don't give enough progess points. - if any at all.

Someone else also said that after you get to a certain rank, low levels stop counting towards the next rank. So that's good to know. I think I'm at Master which I'm not sure is high enough to trigger that effect? I have a T-10 though not engineered, it's on the todo list as think it would be a good way for me to earn some credits whilst recording my records, as I need to focus on that but still would allow me to jump in and out when I can, so it wouldn't be a totally AFK build either, I don't see me leaving it overnight or anything. Not that I'm bothered about those who do or anything.

For AFK, you need the shields maxed out with engineering and Guardian shield boosters. and you need long-range lasers. My T10 has 8000MJ thermal resistance, and I still have to help it out sometimes. An unengineered T10 with no Guardian stuff would be 750Mj and there would be no fast charge between attacks. it would be better to fight the pirates actively in a tanked up Python, which you could leave for maybe a couple of minutes between attacks.

Your gain in combat rank depends on the difference between your rank and the rank of the ship you kill. The higher your own rank, the less points you get. You can see it in the table in the attched link. Basically, when you get to Deadly, you can't get any more points from a low RES, and even when Dangerous, your progress would be very slow.

I haven't unlocked the Guardian Shield Boosters yet, I will have to look to see what I have left over from unlocking other Guardian stuff to see what I need to do that. I've been meaning to check out the Guardian ruins again, this will give me a good reason to go back there. I do have a decently engineered Python though :) , for a while it was my go to ship for combat with engineered Multicannons etc.. They're now on my Gunship which is a lot of fun with full on multicannon dakka. Thanks for the links and help. o7

Also, if you worded it like the way you wordedv this post title on FB,i can understand why people assumed what you're doing might be a breach of game rules... "AFK play" suggests using macros or other automation software.

Some might also argue it's taking advantage of a "known exploit", but those opinions don't matter unless FD say its against the rules[1]

[1] not the only consideration, just in this instance.

T'is a great credit earner!
