Question to those who HAVEN'T cheesed off the lil' green fellas...

Pretty simple one really. Just on my way back from out in the black, thinking about collecting fragments for Palin for the corrosion proof racks. But as yet, I've never collected anything to do with Guardians/Thargoids, never interfered with their structures (ooeer!), not so much as seen one much less shot at them. In other words, I've not yet been involved in the 'alien' side of E;D.

So to anyone in a similar state; have they attacked/ hyperdicted/ buzzed anyone who hasn't given them reason to?

Don't know about "anyone", but at least I haven't seen a single Thargoid yet, although I've harvested a few Barnacles.

Regarding the interdictions and other contacts: reports seem to agree that, as long as you keep your distance and don't interfere with them e.g. harvesting Escape Pods, they won't attack.

Unless things have changed, the safest way to get the fragments for Palin is/was to enter orbit of Ammonia worlds in the Pleiades, wait for a Degraded Emissions/Threat 2 USS (which'll be a Thargoid Probe), bump up against it carefully and you'll chip off fragments until it's destroyed.
Rinse & repeat until you've collected enough fragments and then take 'em to Palin.

It's not exactly exciting stuff but it gets the job done.

To reiterate, though, this was how it USED to work. not sure if it's still the case.

Way easier to just go to one of the crashes ship sites and shoot the Unknown stuff with your SRV. Log off and back in and repeat. You can have all you need in a couple minutes.

The Thargoids can interdict you and attack you without you having ever done anything to them.

Do you have video evidence? All I've seen so far is clumsy players (or vindictive players) asking for it.

Mind you, the Thargoids were drinking out the brains of innocents from their escape pods - or so the propaganda would have us believe...

I got attacked by them and never even touched a UA or guardian item - was carrying occupied escape pods. This was on release day for the 2.4 patch after i went to visit. Collected 10 of them, on the next site he/she just attacked me even when I backed away.

Edit: Before anyone asks, no scanners, no weapons. Fuelscoop and cargo hatch. Thought I had it down if i kept my distance, but this one was particularly edgy. I now consider that as gauntlet thrown.

Says the guy who's avatar is holding four cups of some hot beverage of some sort.

The way I got the fragments was the crash site method described above. This was way before any actual flying aliens were around.

If I remember correctly, the targs are after those occupied rescue pods, too. I haven't been attacked or interdicted, had a couple of runins when jumped intentilnally into level 5 USS.

Just keep your distance, and you should be fine.

Thank you all for the comments and advice; however I was asking if you HAVEN'T been involved in anyway so far - no fragments, visits to sites, etc. have you been interdicted.

Redomus & BigBANGTheory; If you haven't been involved in ANY way, then it would appear it's Green Open Season [alien]

If you get close, they get grumpy, then regardless of intent, will attack, without any other provocation. Also they hoover up occupied pods, presumably as some form of "fast food" that wasn't quite fast enough. They aren't cuddly little space bunnies who want to flop about all cute and cuddly. They have zero compunction about punching anybodies ticket, regardless of intent.

They aren't human; stop expecting them to operate the same way. ;)

That may be the case, but in a game packed with players willing to sell human beings into unknown forms of 'slavery' (insert Soylent Green/ Taken/ Hostel reference here) and attack anyone for unfathomable reasons (insert PVP reference here), I'm sure some players are only because they can't make a profit from the Thargoids yet.

I have had no dealings with any alien tech, (unless meta alloys count?) thargoid or guardian and even though i damn near accidentally rammed the big zombie fidget spinner panicing the first time i met a cyclops, it didnt attack. It followed me for a bit like a gigantic mega stalker, then did one. Then i resumed breathing.

Have met two more since, all at non human signal threat 5’s, one appeared a much lighter colour (near white) than the other two, none have attacked, yet.

No is the short answer.

From what we know (I could be wrong, but this is as I understand it), the Thargoids only Hyperdict people who have interacted with their stuff in some way recently and who are also within a reasonable distance of Merope (I think it's approx 250ly). Hyperdictions are pretty rare, and except for one or two recent ones, always non-hostile.

The young of the Thargoids are said to be parasitic in The Dark Wheel, although this is no longer strictly canon. Professor Palin's disappearance was associated with his being in an escape pod. He was later found and had a brain parasite removed. (Although I can no longer find the Galnet piecce on this.)

They're not eating humans; they're breeding.

From what I've seen the Thargoids tractor beam ALL deposited items in the wreck location including (but not limited to) the escape pods.

In my encounters, they take escape pods and meta alloys, and leave the rest, but i haven't done them for a few days, it might be changing.

TO OP: Go for it!, if you get a chance when you are done get a meta alloy and keep it in your cargo hold then drop into USS non-human. then stop and full reverse, it will come scan, then "tighten up" and go colorless, reminds me of a dog sitting while you hole the treat in your hand, then it zips off to wherever. I love it...must have done it a dozen times... they are so cute...

They don't like it if you touch their stuff (Meta Alloys, Sensors, Probes...etc) and they don't like it if you hurt them.
If you avoid those 2 things.....they won't attack you (yet so far).

So the Thargoids are more passive at this time and i also don't see a reason to shoot 'em. But i have taken some of the weapons just in case. Don't want to see that i'm wrong at the end with nothing on the hand :D

They will attack if you fly too close, or if you are stood still and they fly too close while harvesting stuff. That said, I don't think they attack to kill, I was in a Cobra MkIII (in case I did get killed) and they only took about half my shields before I low waked away. Something tells me they have the firepower to wipe out a Cobra much quicker than that if they wanted.

Edit: I have unlocked prof Palin, so I have harvested some Unknown Fragments and shot a couple of Unknown Artifacts. No idea if they can "smell" that on me ;)
