Newcomer / Intro Questions About ( Minor Wreckage )

Why am I now being criminalized and having to pay fines, If I am scouting out wreckage and getting resources from it?
I think its a bit unfair to pay fines and be pinged as a criminal with a bounty for this.
It should be things people can find and keep right? or am I understanding this wrong ?

Because by this logic, I should then ignore every wreckage in existence in the game, because it will get me into trouble.

Anything else I should not touch, so I don't get bounty and pay fines.
Is there a complete list of this information ?
Because right now as of this moment I will never touch a wreckage again, which defeats the purpose of being an explorer.

Not to mention that none of it fit in my ship anyways.
So not only that I have to pay fines now and am pinged as a criminal, but I can't take any of it anyways. SMH.
Ill probably get shot down just having too right? SMH.

Thanks :)

1. If it is cannisters and it says "Illegal Salvage" - you have to flog it at a Black Market (so need to avoid beng scanned en-route). If is says "Legal Salvage" you can sell it wherever.

2. If it is Odyssey stuff you are picking up from containers etc on the surface then although it says illegal, it actually doesn't show as illegal when you go back in your ship or SRV.

It says Stolen.
In the navigation panel is said Salvage Wreckage or something to that effect.
So I went down and found canisters, but each time I tried to get it, it said I was trespassing.
I had to kill 2 sentinels as they were shooting at me.
I was forced to render myself in to authorities. Pay a Fine.
And now my ship is also impounded.

The game SHOULD inform a pilot and say:
"" You are about to commit a crime, would you like to continue? ""
This way I know ahead of time and leave and do something else.
Here I am thinking its part of the exploration, not committing a crime. SMH
No one shot my down. I turned myself in before that happened.
I got interdicted like 7 times though.

I need to know something..........
If I was scanning planets on planets prior to this mess, will I lose progress of that if I turned myself in and on a prison & ship is impounded ?
I have like $60M in scanning so far, but not finished scanning other planets to trade them all in at the same time.

:/

You carried stolen goods and got scanned by security. Basically you were a thief and got caught.

If you weren't destroyed you should lose no scans.

Thats not what happened.
I was on a planet because I was curious about Salvage Wreckage that was in my Navigation List and what it was about.
I went down to the planet on my way to another planet to scan plants for credits.
When I landed I got attacked by drones. I defended myself, and I killed the 2 drones. and looted the crates.
It immediately placed a bounty on me and fined me. (for defending myself) As they attacked me first.....
I didn't have my hard points out at all. I left all the crates on the planet because my ship told me they don't fit.
So the crates are still on the planet abandoned.

On my way to a station ( to pay my fines and bounty) I got interdicted 7 times.
I landed on the station and gave myself in and paid both, the fines and bounty and found out after I woke up in the station
that my ship was also impounded. So now I have to pay fines for that too.

NO ONE caught me like YOU put it. and I didn't carry anything because they could not fit in my ship in the first place,
so I was forced to abandon them on the planet. I immediately went to a station and handed myself in and paid all the fines.

All this mess, because I was curious about "Salvage Wreckage" that was in my Navitgation Panel and I thought I could Salvage the Wreckage & some stuff.
As An Explorer Pilot.....
.

but each time I tried to get it, it said I was trespassing.
That was your warning. If you were in a SRV, you'd also have seen a red fence around the secure perimeter on your scanner. Retreat quickly, and you won't even get the fine,
I had to kill 2 sentinels
No, you didn't. You still had the option to retreat and get away with the trespassing fine. When you were targeting the sentinels, you also got their status info. And unless that one says "wanted" or "lawless", you will incur a fine (or bounty) for shooting at them.

Same as when you break into a warehouse (trespassing), get caught by security and start shooting at them. Yes, you're only defending yourself - from the legally appointed authorities who are doing their job.

Just be glad you didn't try this stunt with ships in space: in addition to the bounty, you'd also have gained notoriety (if a ship would have been destroyed as a consequence of your action) and you'd have been unable to even pay the bounty until the notoriety had expired (IIRC 1 point/hour)

No fences came up like you claim. when I was out of the SRV and when I was in the SRV.
And as far as status info, all I was looking at was them shooting at me. Too busy trying to stay alive.
and I tried to run away but kept getting fired on and shields where gone. so hopped to guns and killed them both.
As soon as I started to shoot they stopped shooting at me which saved my SRV as I had no more shields and was down to 17% hull even when running away.

...and in general regarding wreckage, both on planets and in space: it's always a risk. Even if it's not labelled as stolen (or illegal salvage). Sometimes, it's simply bait from some pirates.

I just landed on a planet. to continue my venture of scanning plants.
And when I got out of the SRV, it tells me I have "Local Bounty"
Even though I paid My Fine, My Bounty, and My Impound fee's.
How do I still have a bounty, if I paid everything off?
So confused.....

Lets sort this for you so you know for future...

When you come across wreckage or a cache of cannisters on the surface... As you approach you will see a red fence-type thingie appear on your radar / scanner - that is the trespass zone. You can enter a trespass zone and if you leave quickly nothing will happen - too long and you get consequences.

If you see skimmers appear, look at what it says in your target panel (obviously select [target] a skimmer first) - if it says "wanted" - you can shot them and get a bounty CREDIT for each one. If it doesn't say wanted then they are guarding stuff you should not try to take and you will get a bounty placed on you if you try to shoot them - 'cos you just assaulted a "clean" legal sentry.

Awesome Information FNord, thank you :)

1. - When I approached nothing showed up as a (red fence) on my scanner, maybe something is broken or glitched but nothing showed up.
2. - Aaah, ok. This I did not know. (about the wanted skimnmers part) :) Now I know to check that. (if I ever go back to those dumb wreckage places.)
LOL

Here is a question. I surrendered myself in at the nearest station I could find.
Just to start from a clean slate and,

Even after I paid off all my fines:
A: Bounty Fine
B: Trespass Fine
C: Impound Fine

I am notified when existing my ship or SRV, when I am on a planet that I have Local Bounty.
I am still confused by that part, as I went to prison, and paid all my fines and impound fine.

Why am I still being attacked. I went to the station and double checked in the Administrative Contact Page on a station.
It says I am clean, I also while I was there checked everything else, like Bounty and it says None Detected.
I go onto a planet to continue with my venture collecting plant bio, and I am getting shot at.
(facepalm smh)

I logged out of the game to desktop, I re-checked the station again after logging back in,
and I have no fines on me or bounties against me, I am clean.
I go back to any planet in the system, yet again, and I still am being shot at.

I did my time and paid my dues,
What gives....?
LOL

I can't really comment as the only time I have had bounties or fines is when I have fired too soon on some pirate scum who interdicted me but was not actually "wanted" yet. I am a rather goody-two-shoes player so I think that I have only visited an IF to pay off bounty once since I came back to the game last year.

I read that there are these occasional glitches requiring relogging but have not had to go through it myself. In fact I am not even sure these days what the crime and punishment rules are - you know: is the bounty on the ship or the player, how about the SRV etc?

Hopefully someone more au fait with the nefarious side of things will pop up and put you straight.

BTW - the trespass zone should show up, maybe your SRV scanner range was set too high?

I handed in my scans at the Vista Genomics Office. (so happy I didn't have to travel all the way back 43 jumps to cash it in).
BTW - I just went from 5M credits to 114.5M credits when I cashed in, scanning plants on planets for 2 days straight.
I'm floored right now. :D I am eye'ing that Python, but want to take it slow. Hehehe :D

Yes - biologicals are the gold-rush at the moment.

I love the Python, my favourite ship - be warned though 1) you want a lot more money that that to buy and fit properly and 2) Python has a reputation for people getting annoyed - it is tempting to buy, fit-out and take the chance without having enough in the bank to pay for rebuy. Just bear that in mind and enjoy the most versatile ship in my opinion.

I gave in and purchased the Python.
My balance is now 21M credits and my Insurance is 4.2M
Heading out to earn more credits. I love going to planets and scanning.
I haven't even done any missions yet, and also I have to try to find those resources timers in space.
I have 12 limpet collectors just to try it out.
But in the meantime, I am sticking to scanning planets on planets to get another 100M,
To safe guard myself for insurance :D

My python has 4 railguns and 2 lasers. And can jump 17-LY
and most modules are on A from E and D. Few have B, because it was expensive for some items.
But in time I will upgrade. Just dont want to be without insurance monies. hehehe.

:D

You tried to steal cargo that someone owned, and which was defended by drones. You got the message that you were trespassing, which you ignored. You destroyed the drones, and then took the cargo. You ARE the bad guy in this scenario.

You should try and have at least 3 times the price of a ship before buying it, actually with how poorly the Python can perform with the wrong modules fitted I would say at least 4 times in its case. So at least 168 million preferably 224 million to buy and fit out a Python.
