Questions about the current CG mechanics

Hi everyone,

After 4 years of inactivity, I came back to ED.

Outfitted myself a trading Cutter and decided to give a try to the CG.

Since I'm not above getting some pre engineered heatsinks, I'm trying to deliver my goods to Trobairitz.

However, there's a (player controlled) T9 there sitting on the (apparently) only large pad, so I get a "docking request denied" every time I request docking.

Only solution seems to go to solo mode (which I had never done before, I'm a great fan of Open Play), dock and sell the goods, then switch back to Open Play.

That kinda es me off, because I never went solo before, but I also don't want to wait hours for that T9 to go away/log out.

Is there a way to dock that carrier without resorting to Solo ? Also, is that guy blocking the pad on purpose, so that commanders are tempted to deliver the goods to the other faction of the CG ?

Hadn't thought of blocking the person, good suggestions guys - even if the guy is innocently unaware that he's causing a nuisance (I did it when a noob, until I got a message from a friend telling me to put my ciggy out and get back inside to clear the pad!), the method will still work.

Good luck op, but don't have your game decisions swayed by other people being giant spoons!

The same thing happened to me, I naturally switched to solo, and on my way back reading the chat I found out the blockade was player driven and there is a good reason for it (not to say some need any reason to blockade). I stayed in open after that, let it play out. I wish that in such cases, the NPCs would mimick player behavior in solo.

The point being?
The point being is that the phrase "everyone should be able to play the game the way they want to" is clearly not possible.

If I want player driven actions matter (e.g. I stay in open and don't land), then since NPCs do not mimick player behavior (block the pad in solo), I cannot compete in the CG with those who switch to solo. The player who blocks, and let's give her/him the benefit of the doubt that s/he is not afk, also cannot really influence the galaxy. Therefore only those, who switch to solo are able to play as they wish, not the player blocking and not me waiting.

To be clear, I am not advocating for open-only. I am advocating for the solo-ed-galaxy to have some resemblance of the galaxy that has players in it, humans with consciousness, whether they choose to play in open or solo, because human decisions make the galaxy interesting to play in.

I like the idea, but I a poll was taken of the number of players who want this, or wait further development, I think the outcome will be clear.

Now please don't think I'm arguing with you, as I like the idea of having more unpredictable ai, for want of a better phrase; but to attain this would probably take a lot of dev work, and sadly that is my point.

Let's just say it'd be great, in the proverbial perfect world.

Oh, but it is possible.
You can play however you want. Nobody is preventing you to do that.
But you cannot use that freedom to ruin my gaming experience.

Pretty much like the freedom of speech does not mean you can use it to ruin someone elses day by being abusive or... well, i guess you catch my drift

I feel it is in the spirit of ED's procedural generation and simulating parallel instances that locally (system wise) aggregated player behavior should be a baseline for the behavior of NPC's within the system (for or against player actions) - 'unpredictable AI' as you put it. I would give up my LEP for such a galaxy.

I also feel this should be doable after a tick, but during run-time ?

Did you ever have to wait to land in solo ? I did, but not much.

I appreciate the NPCs promptly launch soon after I request to dock, but it is also a bit immersion breaking at times, at times when there ranking of factions comes to head. Why don't certain faction NPCs block a station when I deliver cargo that hinders their goals ?

Note I used 'aggregated' player behavior. For example, if 90% of players in open, or at time 't-1' do not themselves block the pad (their average time of dock/undock is under 2 min) , you in solo, or at time 't' would not be waiting at all.

Infusion of individual player behavior would bring color to the galaxy. It is probably very difficult to do, but aggregated behavior may be doable.
