Questions about the current CG mechanics

I'd say you are right to a point, until you scale to CGs or Powerplay then the system falls apart because then you focus people into restricted areas and times.

... but not in the same instance/mode
As i said, the game is not designed around a single mode. It's designed from the starting hypothesis that players will join the game from whatever mode they are comfortable with

Getting back to the current CG - a Megaship with it's single large pad can induce some organic play in the form of Pad Management, landing queues etc.
Until someone decides to AFK on the pad.

At which point you can block them and relog.
Not a big deal.
And certainly a way better thing to do than to introduce a hangar loitering timer that will impact my game in solo in PG or even in Open in a remote part of the bubble which will rarely gets a visitor.

Its making the most of the mode though, Open can never really flourish (or PvE in Solo) because the Venn diagram overlap (IMO at least) sits over flaws.

Having to chop and change mode to do something simple (with said changing taking away a lot of gameplay opportunities) to me is short sighted.

Pad blocking solution: unless docking, undocking procedure is going on... immediately and automatically move the pad blocker to the hangar (without the possibility of stopping it).

Yes, I think they should just move the blocking ships into the hangar when another commander needs it. Maybe give a grace time, so that the landed commander has time to do his business.
