Questions for Multi-Crew

The dev update is getting fast and furious. Thought I'd collect some of my favorite questions here...

  • Can you hot swap from your ship in space? If yes, what happens to your ship.
  • Can I select what kind of ship I want to crew on, like setting preference for Imperial Clipper and not allowing Fed. Corvette?
  • Can I view what a potential crew ship is doing? If they have a loadout of mining lasers, hanging out in a random drop in the rings, I might want to skip them.
  • What happens when I'm booted or quit while flying an SLF? Does an AI take over or does it just 'splode?
  • Can I make rank progress (combat, trade, explo) while serving as crew?
  • Can I land my ship and me and my crew head out in SRVs?
  • Will handing helm to crew ever become an option in a subsequent update?
  • Will helm have absolute fire control? Could a crew grief occur where the gunner opens up the turrets on a Coriolis station?
  • What will the helm see when crew join? Will they just instal-appear, or be animated as moving to the seat?
  • Will the crew be animated when they are doing their tasks?
  • Can you please confirm that the helm is still able to fly a fighter in a multi crew ship.
  • Is multi-crew horizons only content?

Monk, I`m sorry but from what I gathered we still have no clue on how this mechanic would work. Unless I missed some announcement of course, but I don't think anyone can answer your questions atm.

That's fine...as I said, I'm just collecting some here for my own and anyone else's reference. Whenever I see one of those threads..."Post your questions for the livestream" I just somehow forget every good question I've seen.
 
Yeah probably best to wait until Ed posts a "questions for the next livestream" thread. EDIT: we were typing at the same time :)

The only question i have is what the hell 1-3 other players can do so they have as much fun as flying their own ship.

I know that from my perspective, sometimes I just want some fun and easy action in Elite, which can be hard when you have a Deadly combat rank. Letting me man the turrets would be fun, visually pleasing (3rd person turret view FTW) and not as hectic as managing everything the pilot does. Plus, flying an SLF is always a hoot...

Yup, some of my questions are in there, but Ed is just one man and pretty much said he is checking out for the evening.


Another Q: What if I end up on the ship of a combat logger? Will the checks for combat logging know that I am a helpless crewmember and not the one doing the combat log?

EDIT: spotted this one in the dev thread... Can I make rank progress (combat, trade, explo) while serving as crew?

Noticed that now, it just pooped out on steam news feedback and was pretty new to me so I quickly posed the link here...
Anyway at least we know the basics now.

I figured as much. No worries. :) Appreciate the intent

Anyway, added another question...will crew be able to drive an SRV if you have extras

This is great news! But I'd like to add some additional options with explorers in mind:

- Captain should be allowed to relinquish helm control temporarily to another player. So a captain travelling to Sag A could ask for a friend to take over flying and jumping and honking while they themselves take a break or go grab lunch. The assisting player will be able to share in the credit earnings for scanning once the ship captain makes it to a Stellar Cartography contact. This could be an especially sweet deal if the captain is in the Neutron fields.

- Not only flying ship launched fighters, but other players should also be able to use SRVs! So a ship with two or more SRVs could have a couple of players driving around on the surface looking for materials and POIs while the mothership leaves to orbit like it does with single players now.

The two multicrew options mentioned in the dev post are exclusively combat oriented. And explorers desperately need some help.

    A simulated swarm of space loaches invade your dormant ship, they quickly reproduce and rub themselves over you hotas equipment as well as weeing in your space beverage cup holder.

  • Can I select what kind of ship I want to crew on, like setting preference for Imperial Clipper and not allowing Fed. Corvette?

    Ship selection will be performed by the patent pending Bo'Selecta ship selection algorithm, this typically places placid PvE players with rabid PvP players and vice versa

  • Can I view what a potential crew ship is doing? If they have a loadout of mining lasers, hanging out in a random drop in the rings, I might want to skip them.

    Yes, the range of new camera angles allows you to view your potential shipmates in what FDev intends to be a new lurid voyeur channel pay per view revenue stream

  • What happens when I'm booted or quit while flying an SLF? Does an AI take over or does it just 'splode?

    A small sign appears on your screen inscribed with the timeless motto "Git Gud Scrub!"

  • Can I make rank progress (combat, trade, explo) while serving as crew?

    How you go about ranking is your own affair, remember the new cameras are watching you!

  • Can I land my ship and me and my crew head out in SRVs?

    You can, but you will have to put up with seeing the gurning, oddly shaped avatars your auto selected PvP lulzbunnie "friends" have pasted onto themselves

  • Will handing helm to crew ever become an option in a subsequent update?

    Away missions are subject to a legal wrangle with the Roddenberry estate, FDev may implement Captain Oates Moments in the mean time....

  • Will helm have absolute fire control? Could a crew grief occur where the gunner opens up the turrets on a Coriolis station?

    No, the whole ramifications of letting strangers get hold of your over engineered firepower in a heavily built up area have been strenuously thought out, worked through hand alpha tested before even being countenanced for release to the great unwashed public

  • What will the helm see when crew join? Will they just instal-appear, or be animated as moving to the seat?

    The appearance animation is subject to the ongoing legal wrangle with the Roddenberry estate, needless to say the sound effects will be stunning

  • Will the crew be animated when they are doing their tasks?

    If they are ranking, then highly likely

  • Can you please confirm that the helm is still able to fly a fighter in a multi crew ship.

    Do you really want to leave your ship, piloted by an impressionable young NPC whilst the rabid PvP lulzbunnies finally get full control on your engineered firepower and wonder if they can practice on that fast moving target you have just presented to them on a platter?

  • Is multi-crew horizons only content?

    Yes (sorry couldn't think of anything for this)
