Quick check in about new aspiring Thargoid fighter

Hi guys,

I've not fought any Thargoids as yet, and I want to get prepared. No need to recreate the forum content wheel, I wanted to make sure I'm looking at the right resources.

If there's a source/link or a major aspect I'm missing, or if I'm looking at old recommendations that don't apply 'best practice' right now please let me know. I've got a few bil right now so I've got the funds, I just recognise I'm probably going to be seeing the rebuy screen a fair amount.

Ship / Module Builds

Finding Thargoid Bashing Friends
  • I've found the Anti-Xeno Initiative group in game and I'm now a member - how do I contribute to the community / get involved in a wing/squadron?

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Ship / Module Builds
Guardian equipment unlocks haven’t changed, so you should be fine going with that guide - that said, I would personally avoid using Guardian module reinforcements now because of Glaives having an anti-Guardian field which will fry those things as well. Not strictly necessary, but may be helpful to get out of the hot zone and fix your stuff up without suffering too much further module damage.

And AXI’s build sheet/recommended builds page is good for starting out even now, I’d say. Large ships may benefit from the use of an experimental weapon stabilizer, if/when you get that far, but the big ships are usually not recommended as starters*.

*A six modshard(modified shard cannon, available through tech broker in Mbooni) Anaconda doesn’t have too high of a skill ceiling, but you’re also unlikely to learn how to fly anything else against interceptors that way.

If you have discord, joining the AXI discord would be a good idea(link should be on their wiki page). I’m sure you’ll find a number of people there willing to give you advice or run alongside you while starting out. It will also have any target orders for the ongoing Thargoid war in the Bubble listed in it.

Notwithstanding the Hazardous Environment caused by the Glaive, Orthrus and by Maelstrom systems, note that the builds on that page are for classic Interceptor duelists. I started with the Alliance Chieftain:
  • Initially with Gauss cannons, which are again the classic Interceptor duelist weapon due to their high Piercing being more capable against stronger Interceptors.
  • Eventually with a Plasma and Shard combination, no Flak, and two Thermal Vent.
With a Caustic sink to handle barely-visible Caustic clouds, I found I evaded so much damage that I started using a Fer-de-Lance for port defence.

For more simple alien destruction of anything up to a Cyclops, any tough-hull vessel with Enhanced AX Multi-cannons is fine, given a Enhanced Xeno Scanner for petal targeting and Heat sinks for returning to normal after burning Caustic away via Silent running. This video is a very lazy Cyclops kill, making no attempt to avoid damage at all, which I recorded as part of Destroying your first Thargoid Cyclops with minimal equipment, upgrades, flying and effort. That Python has no appreciable engineering!

Mind that the latter will not teach good dueling, nor will said six-Shard Anaconda.
