OT: I've never liked the Cobra. I wasn't on PC for the older Elite games and for the few moments I tried it in this game I just didn't care for it. Cool Ranch is my AspEx and while I have no current use for it, I do love it. So if I had to choose, I have to go Scout.

*Sigh* I voted wrong...the second I saw Asp I just thought Explorer and voted for that one. While I really meant Cobra one :\ ah well...I'll have to be more careful at the booth in November :p

The Asp Scout is clearly superior when it comes to combat: its PD is a whole class better, the weapons are much better placed, you have a much better view outside and its far more agile. It has more utility slots as well, so it would easily get my vote. The Cobra is for people who cant fight and need to flee from everyone, or people who are nostalgic about the ship. Its still great for its very low price, but thats about it.

Cobra. Give me the option of 1984's military Asp and I may have a different answer :D No history with, or memories of, the scout though.

Scout is an interesting ship but the CM3 is in a class all its own. I've never sold mine. I've refitted it to keep up with changes at every patch and still take it for a spin here and there. It's just a lovely, lovely ship.

Love the cobra, it's knitted out for smuggling now since other ships have taken over as its job as multirole. That's the joy of the cobra it can do so many things at a affordable price. Have the asp scout it is ok for combat it's just that cockpit is too vulnerable to being popped and it's a little slow too run away pre engineering.

The Cobra is iconic and I actually love flying mine. Heck if I could pack it in my Conda I'd take it everywhere with me.
The Asp Scout has always been the ugly duckling in my opinion. I just can't figure out how a scout version can actually be slower than the base model it's been derived from. It indeed has got great maneuverability and given the number of internal slots it's more versatile while having a better jump-range and is overall a ship which can do better trading, better exploring than the Cobra. But in my experience, the Asp's large hitbox with it's slow speed are counterproductive to its nimble nature and that has limited it's combat capability.

Clearly Cobra. As Mole said there's the lore factor, but it's just SO good at so MANY things. The Asp Scout is one of those ships that struggles with its own definition, imho. It just seems to fall between all the cracks. :(

Ah, yes, the canopy - Achilles heel of both Asps. That bloody bubble on the front of both is just asking for it. (Doesn't stop me flying into trouble in the DRXS Golden Hind IV, mind)

Yeah Cobra vs. AspE is a helluva question. That definitely would be a discussion of interest. But the Asp scout just has no niche and no real history.

I'd been curious to try the asp scout as a planetary mission runner, with dumbfires and rails.

As with any ship, it isn't like it can't be set up to do a job. But anything it can do, another ship does better. It has no role that would make you say "well I am gonna pick up an Asp S to do this job because it's the best choice".

If anyone likes it then I am 100% pleased FD didn't bring in a ship that may as well have been left on the development whiteboard, because character/personal preference is just about the only thing it has going for it.
