Quick question about Material Traders - trading between rows?

I haven't tested the material traders that much. I had the impression that I can only trade up and down in one "line" - for example from chemical units up until pharmaceutical thingies.
But is it possible to trade between those lines of materials - for example exchanging bio conductors to chemical manipulators?

I can't test it myself right now and that question needs to get out of my head.

Can't test it neither, but at least in beta you have been able to trade between lines within similar rarity. IIRC for a 3:1 tradeoff
Not quite sure this made it's way to the release tho

You can trade between lines as well but the rates are pretty bad, generally 3 for 1 (3 very rare of a type in one row will net 1 very rare in a different row, for example). 6 for 1 and 3 for 2 are other combinations.
