Quickest route to Elite?

Ok, here's a question - of the three routes (combat, trading, exploration) to Elite - which do you think is fastest (if there is one)?

As I understand it, getting to Elite means a Founders World permit, which gives a discount on ships (10%?) and maybe outfitting too? So there is a practical benefit to becoming Elite.

I'm at Tycoon in trading right now, but I still have 'only' 540,000,000 profit. I understand that to get to Elite requires just over 1,000,000,000. I really can't see myself doing that much more trading!

I have tried exploration, but for me it is just not that interesting.

So that leaves combat. I'm at about 1800 kills so far - made it to 'Master'. I think dangerous kicks in around the 2500 - 3000 mark. Elite I believe is over 8000 kills. I reckon on each NAV beacon trip I kill around 50 NPCs, so it would still take a while.

Any ideas?

For combat, find a conflict zone that has a capital ship. Choose the same faction as the capital ship and attack the same target as the capital ship (just follow the lasers). The small ships drop real fast. In some cases, you only need to hit them once and move onto the next. You need to do damage to the hull, though, not just the shields. For the larger ships, make sure you get some hits in towards the end of the fight. Also, don't be tempted to chase down the Anacondas and Pythons that run. You will profit more by sticking with the capital ship and killing everything near it. I pull in about 1 mil per hour in a capital ship conflict zone. Currently at dangerous ranking. Happy hunting.

Exploration is nearly double the time investment of combat or trading

From Harmless take the first left and go on to Mostly Harmless. Then go straight on until you hit Deadly (avoid the detour at Expert) and then accelerate towards Elite

bear in mind also that the smaller the ship you are in, the more impact your kills have towards your combat ranking. i don't like them myself, but many here swear by the Viper as the ideal combat ship, and it is certainly one of the smaller ones available. maybe try one of those?

For combat the warzones I found a very good place to up rank, but like everyone says, there's no rush. I just did it so my trade and combat decal matched :p
